If you are the first to buck conventional wisdom (and, especially if you are right), you will suffer for it. The sciences can be particularly vicious that way.

Science has become a freaking religion with high priests guarding ignorance in support of their world view and power. It’s sad to see Western science fall to humanism/paganism.
