Most Freepers think a government shutdown would benefit the country yet all surveys are phrased as "Who would you BLAME for a government shutdown?"
I say we need surveys using the word credit instead of blame.

The last time the government shut down, I barely noticed. If it wasn’t for some petulant brat ordering “furloughed” goons to block war veterans from visiting memorials or shoo tourists from parking near Mount Rushmore, no one would have.

If 0bama shuts it down via veto, I would like to see the biggest outpouring of support from Republicans since he took office spontaneously erupt, I would like to see effusive, over the top statements from the GOP about what a great leader he is. Just to screw with his Marxist pea-brain.

By “government shutdown”, do you mean the time where all the useless gubmint overlords go take a paid leave and not do any of their regular useless day “work”?

Because the last time it was shut-down, something like 75% of personnel and their offices were considered "critical" and weren't actually shut-down. It was all just PR as public parks and government statistical offices were closed for media-hype purposes.
Congress needs to talk - clearly, forcefully, and without any apologetic, groveling mealymouthed-ness - directly to the people, and in simple terms like: If you send your kid to the store for milk and bread and he comes home with only bread because he spent the milk money on candy it is his fault that there is no milk for breakfast and he can explain to his brothers and sisters why they have no breakfast.

The Republicans really need to focus on Jarrett and use her name relentlessly in all communications! She is President! Whenever a Republican mentions "Barack Obama" it needs to be totally coupled with "Valerie Jarrett" on every news interview and presser. Journalists that are "real" journalists need to couple the two of them together as well. i.e. "What is President Obama and Valerie Jarrett's plan with regards to this veto threat?" LINK THEM RELENTLESSLY so the two cannot be separated until she breaks.
All the usual people would blame the usual people they usually blame and it would all be forgotten before long. The short-term politics aren’t important.
The important question is whether a ‘shutdown’ can be used to accomplish something worthwhile.
