A stall is not a healthy place for a horse
Yep. Sad news. Reminds me of a ‘Sopranos’ episode.
a horse for some is like a member of the family. How sad and tragic
For later.
Seems to me I recall ANOTHER very similar occurrence happening in Chicago some years back.
Yes indeed, it’s the Chicago way - sickening method to collect money and dispose of the horses. I need to look into this one, I knew someone with several horses in McHenry county - hoping none of his were where this fire took place.
A whole string of them, actually. When there’s an arson with horses involved in Chicago, I’m pretty sure that is an automatic FBI red flag.
Any arson with horses involved is a red flag anywhere. Chicago, New York State, Florida...any place with race horses (or show horses). Insurance arson used to be called “Italian lightning” when I was a kid in New York.
It’s pretty cruel when they kill horses, though, but lucrative, because what the owner collects on the insurance is huge. Unless he goes to jail...

Considering all parties involved are probably betting folk, I guess it is not surprising that some would take the risk.
Last one was less than a year ago, iirc. No foul play in that one.
A barn fire is the thing we horse people fear most. Most barns go up so fast, the horses don’t stand a chance. We built our barn with concrete for just this reason.
