It’s just that people don’t realize that you cannot enhance a superlative.

You can say, “unusual,” you can say, “rare,” you can say “very rare,” or you can say, “unique.” But if you try to amplify “unique” by saying, “very unique,” you indicate that you do not actually mean unique at all.
