SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) A 22-year-old Army veteran was fatally shot early Sunday morning while celebrating his homecoming from Afghanistan.
According to the Sylmar Police Department, the girlfriend of Francisco Garcia threw a party Saturday evening at her home located on Dronfield Street to celebrate his return.
Around 2:00 a.m. Sunday, those who attended the party moved up the street to a different location.
Officers explained Garcia was standing on the sidewalk, North of Astoria Street, when two cars stopped near Sylmar High School.
A Hispanic man reportedly exited a dark SUV and proceeded to smash a beer bottle on the ground while yelling at Garcia across the street.
He then walked to the second vehicle, described as a white Toyota or Honda, retrieved a handgun from a second suspect and started shooting at Garcia.
Authorities said Garcia was shot and died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

You can never go home. RIP
Well that sucks.
Kommiefornia reaping the unavoidable consequences of allowing illegals to dominate an area other than a jail house of section of the local Potters Field.
That’s just messed up. IMO, it’s attrocious, the perp should be shot where it hurts.
Sad to lose this kid
Sadder the shooters are still out there.....be interesting to see who they are and what they have to offer society compared with Garcia
I hope they find this man and shoot him in both knees
America under Obama.....more dangerous than Afghanistan.
Good by me, first the ankles, then the knees, the head, hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders and then maybe eventually the head.......on his shoulders. Some say I'm vindictive, and you know what, I'm okay with that.
He was mistaken for a rival gang member.
It happens in California more often then you think.
Don’t wear white T-shirts, a necklace, baggy pants and sneakers.
You as might well be a target.
This reminds me of some black neighborhoods, where like Crayfish in a barrel, the lowlife vermin struggle to drag each other back down so that nobody gets out of that barrel.
Tan muy celoso y miedo! (So very jealous and afraid).
Where did ya get the shooter was an illegal Mr. guru?
And since it’s believed the shooter and the victim knew each other, why would the victim be hanging out with an illegal who wound up shooting him to death?
Your turn Floriduh.
Must have been some bad blood from years ago before Garcia joined the US Army
First rule of a successful life: get out of the ghetto. Staying in these racial ghettos is like going to Iraq and Syria for meditation and reflection. Everyone around is either jealous poor or a criminal. Or both.
The article said nothing about the immigration status, indeed it said the shooter was not yet known.
The prediction of the shooter’s immigration status was based upon the SoCal illegal population dominance of crime stats.
“Prediction 101 Made Easy”, a personal preview, just for you. My bill will arrive in the the morning mail.
;-)
That's what I said, so why did you imply the shooter was an illegal. BTW it's also reported the shooter and the victim knew each other.
Your predictions are free, and worth every penny, right swamp guru?
And feel free to answer the question your conveniently evaded.
I pray the good return soldiers and move next to me, those who know evil and recognize it, I want them for my friends.
I never served but, this brings on a bad friggen bipolar morning.
As a member of the Southern California Patriot Guard Riders I have attended countless Welcome Home celebrations for returning soldiers, seamen, airmen and marines. They have all been celebratory occasions with tears of joy. I cannot imagine the grief this young man’s family is experiencing after seeing their loved one survive the rigors and the dangers of combat only to die on the streets of LA. Very sad indeed.
