Has the new format upped the excitement?

I’d say probably yes.

Interesting nobody from Hendrick made the final, they’ll have to send the killer motor to Stewart Haas.

If I was wagering, I’d go with Harvick, think he’s got the momentum.

Seemed to me JG was HOT under his collar. Kinda like controlled rage.

Maybe he and the other drivers were warned.

Excitement was probably up, at least through this race. I’m still not a happy camper. Too difficult to keep track of what’s happening unless you are TOTALLY tuned in.

Well he got beat straight up by Hendrick equipment.
That’s always hard to take.

Ah Grasshopper, You should have foreseen this situation and prepared for it by recording (for Historical purposes) some of the Racing Season to make through the offsillydry season that is until February 2015.

Now go and make Peace with the World.

Haas has not considered pulling Kurt Busch from car: Kurt Busch will continue to drive the #41 Chevy at Stewart-Haas Racing as long as co-owner Gene Haas has anything to do with it. Busch, who is being investigated by Dover (Del.) police for an alleged assault on ex-girlfriend Patricia Driscoll, will drive Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway, will be in the car next week at Homestead-Miami Speedway and continue to drive for the team for the foreseeable future, Haas said Sunday. "He'll be in the car until someone else pulls him out," Haas told a small group of reporters before the Phoenix race. "I'm not pulling him out." Haas' company, Haas Automation, is the sponsor of Busch's car and will continue to be on the hood during the investigation, he said. "I think we're just going to let the police department do their job and try not to say anything that would compromise that," he said. "We want an unbiased investigation and we'll see how it all plays out." Is Haas worried about what the investigation might find? "The facts I know, I'm not concerned about it," he said.(USA Today)(11-10-2014)

Larson Comments on Newman's Move: #42-Kyle Larson called #31-Ryan Newman's last-lap actions Sunday "a little upsetting" but said he understood Newman's desperation and "can't fault him for being aggressive there.'' Needing to pass Larson to secure the final spot in the championship round, Newman dive-bombed the rookie on the last lap at Phoenix International Raceway. Newman's car slid up the track and hit Larson's car, sending it toward the wall. That allowed Newman by, giving him a shot at the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. By advancing, Newman eliminated #24-Jeff Gordon from title contention. "Coming to the finish, there were a lot of cars racing really hard,'' Larson said in a statement provided to Motor Racing Network by Chip Ganassi Racing. "I knew (Newman) was right around me and knew he needed to gain some spots to keep from getting eliminated from the Chase. It's a little upsetting he pushed me up to the wall, but I completely understand the situation he was in and can't fault him for being aggressive there. I think a lot of drivers out here would have done something similar if they were in that position."(Motor Racing Network)(11-10-2014)

Is there a limit to how far the aggression is allowed to go before it gets dangerous? "Desperation" is not going to be a valid justification forever.

If it were earlier in the race and Larson hit the wall, would the yellow flag have come out immediately? Because this was a white flag lap, if a yellow came out immediately the race would have been over. Would Larson have kept his position based on the last scoring mark?

What frustrates me about sports officiating in general is the inconsistency of making a call early in an event that you won't call at the end, or vice versa. Usually, it's in the name of excitement or competition. But to me, being behind, or being the underdog is no excuse for special treatment at the end of a competition; that special treatment being things like rushing the other players who are running out the clock, or not blowing a whistle on a foul, etc., to give the behind team that last chance. If the refs aren't willing to call it in the last minutes of the game, then don't call it in the first minutes either.

So the question is, was Larson's hit into the wall enought to have thrown the yellow to end the race right there? Heck, they were at the head of the pack, so it could have caused a dangerous situation to everyone behind him if he didn't hit the wall as smoothly as he did... this time.

Cartion!!!

Watching the New and “Improved” NaScar may be hazardous to one’s blood pressure.

A bunch of non winners are competing while the series 3 , 4 and even 5 time winners are shut out?

What’s wrong with this picture, NASCAR?

It’s not racing. It’s stupid.

Even the King would likely agree.. But then he might get penalized.

Enough old time fans have already been.

Jmho

Nothing would make me happier than to see Newman finish 2nd next week and win the cup. The skull shrapnel pattern from Brian France’s head would make a helluva picture......
