Alabama Joins Wave of States Banning Foreign Laws
Governing ^ | 11-4-2014 | LIZ FARMER

Alabama has become the seventh state to ban Sharia law via a ballot measure that prohibits its courts from considering foreign, international or religious law.

Tuesday night, the ballot measure, called the “American and Alabama Laws and Alabama Courts Amendment,” passed overwhelmingly with 72 percent of voters in support.

The ban clarifies the state constitution to say that other state laws or foreign law cannot be used in ways that violate state law or rights under the Alabama Constitution or the U.S. Constitution. In 2012, an unsuccessful ballot measure, also proposed by Republican state Sen. Gerald Allen, would have explicitly banned state courts from implementing Islamic Shariah law.

That’s not exactly how it read on the ballot. Never a mention of sharia law. I believe this would include the UN or other outside forces wanting to impose laws on us too.

And we do have our share of low information voters as well as low IQ voters.

I’m Glad to see TENNESSEE on the list!!

“Six states have similar foreign law bans, with North Carolina’s enacted most recently last year. The others are Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, South Dakota and Tennessee. Missouri also passed a measure banning foreign law last year, but Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed the bill because of its potential impact on international adoptions. Oklahoma’s voters approved a ban, which explicitly referred to Sharia law, in 2010. But this year, it was struck down by a federal appeals court for being discriminatory.”

Thank you, Bama, for the ping.

Statewide pinglist. If someone would like to join the list, let me know. I will add you when I have a working internet connection.

Note: I stepped up to keep the Alabama (aka the State of Auburn!) because no one else volunteered and it is not an onorous task. I did grow up in Auburn and have lived in Notasulga, Andalusia, and Stevenson. But, because I work in Indonesia, I frequently am asleep when something happens. Two things: one, the pinglist is on my profile page. Feel free to copy and ping the list yourselves. Two, if someone else would like this responsibility, let me know and I will be happy to relinquish it.

Come on down. Alabama is really overlooked by most folks. It’s actually a great place to live. The state motto is “We dare defend our rights”. Most folks here take that pretty seriously. Not near as many government busy bodies as a lot of places. We pretty much do our own thing and mind our own business. Maybe that is because we are very heavily armed down here.

That’s true. I guess it’s easier to amend than to impeach. Of course spelling it out does make it easier to impeach when that time comes.

The ACLU will judge-shop it. And get it ruled discriminatory and unconstitutional and thrown out. This is what’s wrong with the referendum method of governance. With an out of control federal court system the states are just roadkill. One appointed America-hating Democrat liberal judge gets to slap down every voter in that state and label them all bigots.

My friend has 11 acres for sale in Mobile, county. Another has 5 acres, close by the 11 acres. (rural)

Thanks. Hope AU wins the rest of their games. It has been a very interesting year for the SEC, especially AU and State.
