The author's basic premise is flawed. He says because everyone is terrible that Michael Sam was good enough to play.
What it really says is that Michael Sam was really not very good at all if he couldn't find a place on a roster of terrible defenses.
New NFL player position would have to be created. “Loose end” would be an appropriate name.
They did everything they could to give him a chance.

He was on the cowboys practice team.. a team that NEEDS a pass rush and they let him go.. that should say something.
He had a very good maybe great college career but that may well be a function of scheme more than excess of talent.
