Explanation: When orbiting Saturn, be sure to watch for breathtaking superpositions of moons and rings. One such picturesque vista was visible recently to the robot Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn. In 2006 April, Cassini captured Saturn's A and F rings stretching in front of cloud-shrouded Titan. Near the rings and appearing just above Titan was Epimetheus, a moon which orbits just outside the F ring. The dark space in the A ring is called the Encke Gap, although several thin knotted ringlets and even the small moon Pan orbit there.

Titan is a biggun.
That is Most Definitely an
“OOOOOO>>>AHHHHH APOD!”
It is; bigger than Mercury (which does however have higher density if memory serves) and Earth’s Moon. :’)

The bigger version is not, alas, all that much bigger, but I wholeheartedly agree, and am glad APoD’s back to doing celestial shots for a while, instead of trick shots of terrestrial scenes with a sky over it. I mean, I see that every night. :’)
I agree! :-)
Lots of new stuff coming before too long. New Horizons is only about 2 AU from Pluto and will begin sending its first photos in a few months. Juno is due to arrive at Jupiter in 2016. We’ve also got a comet landing coming up in a few weeks.
Wow!!
That’s an amazing pic!!
Very nice, Mr. Civilizations. ;-)
Unfortunately I have no expectation of ever orbiting Saturn in this lifetime.
In fact, it's very unlikely I'll ever even own a Saturn.
:’) I’m looking forward to it.
