Nick Marshall accounts for 4 TDs as No. 5 Auburn blows out LSU

AUBURN, Ala. -- Nick Marshall and the Auburn Tigers rose to the occasion on a week when most of the teams ranked ahead of them fell.

Marshall passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 119 and two more scores to lead No. 5 Auburn to a 41-7 blowout of No. 15 LSU on Saturday night.

Auburn (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) dominated from the start on a week when No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Alabama and No. 4 Oklahoma were upset. The 41 points equaled Auburn's highest total in the rivalry -- set with the same margin in the 1999 game.

"Nick played like one of the better quarterbacks in the entire country," Malzahn said.

And Auburn played like one of the better teams.

LSU (4-2, 0-2), which turned to freshman quarterback Brandon Harris, has dropped its first two SEC games for the first time in coach Les Miles' decade-long tenure.

Harris completed 3 of 14 passes for 58 yards before getting replaced late in the third quarter by former starter Anthony Jennings.

With Marshall playing again like the Heisman Trophy candidate many expected him to be, Auburn could rise to the No. 2 spot it held after last season.

He completed 14 of 22 passes, had 16 carries and supplied a steady diet of big plays. Marshall threw touchdown passes of 56 yards to Sammie Coates and 9 yards to tight end C.J. Uzomah, and scored on runs of 7 and 29 yards.

I think Auburn will jump to number 1.

Last week I wasn’t really surprised that Penn State lost but, blown out? I never expected that.

Maybe in the coach’s poll. I doubt the AP will give it to Auburn.

In what is apparently a down year in the SEC, parity or rather mediocrity has settled into the SEC. There is no word yet as to whether or not Auburn is still stealing opponent’s signals allowing the team the ability to defeat superior teams.

Alabama is expected to be ranked #1 in the country as late word has it that the check cleared...Look for Auburn to be ranked #2 since they just aren’t as good as Alabama...

Auburn, good luck. Miss Stat, S. Carolina, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia, and Alabama upcoming. Lol.

FSU, hm, Notre Dame.

The playoffs might help the higher strengths of schedule, if they can make it through.

“Alabama is expected to be ranked #1 in the country as late word has it that the check cleared”

You have to win to be # 1.

SEC RULES!

Please.... Pac12 teams are all good with few exceptions. Oregon got beat by another good PAC12 team.

The SEC has a few great teams and the rest mediocre at best.

The PAC12 is the toughest conference inside and out, but you can continue to live in your SEC fantasy world if you wish.

WAR EAGLE! Ping to the Auburn list.

Let me know if you would like to be added to the AU Family list. Bear in mind, I am currently in Indonesia and am frequently asleep when you are awake.

UCLA is currently losing to Utah which affects the top 5 in my book.

I would go with Fl St., Aub, Baylor, Notre Dame, Miss St and then Ole Miss. MSST had blowout against T A&M vs the one TD win over Ala. Baylor and ND were already ahead of the two which says they had other quality wins earlier in the season.

Assuming you were responding to my Alabama comment, I don’t know if it was satrical. But, we are not talking about the SEC, but the AP poll which is bigger than the south’s obsession with football.

I am being sarcastic!
