Although Vin Scully plans to return for a 66th season as the voice of the Dodgers, he could reduce his workload next year by as much as 25%.

Scully said he has decided to skip road games, at least early in the season. In addition to the Dodgers' home games, the 86-year-old Scully currently travels with the team to Anaheim, Arizona, San Diego and San Francisco.

"I’m going to go to Anaheim for sure," Scully said Tuesday night. "But I’m going to try to cut back on nights on the road. I really want to spend more time at home."

I just wish some of the other sports announcers would emulate Vin's style.
It is a pleasure to listen to him.

Had to happen sooner or later. The guy was an amazing sports play by play man.

None of them can do what Vinnie does--they all know it and would feel foolish and disrespectful even trying. He's one-of-a-kind, and there will never be another.

He’ll still announce all 81 home games plus a couple in Anaheim—Lord willing. As Vinnie has said, “If you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans.”

LOL, good line huh.

Yes you are right. He is still announcing. My mistake in inadvertent wording.

My misspent youth was in SoCal. Vinny and Jerry were like friends that lived in my transistor radio. I remember listening to Vinny call the Sandy Koufax perfect game against the Cubs.....Does that make me old?! I am not the baseball fan that I once was, but if I know that Vinny will be calling a game on MLB I will tune in for a few innings just to hear him work.

Vin Scully is the master of the mike.

Slacker!

Just kidding - as lucky as I was growing up listening to the great Lon Simmons and Bill King broadcasting Giants and A's games respectively, on late summer nights the radio would pick up KABC all the way down in LA and I'd get to hear Vin Scully calling the last few innings of some Dodgers game and extolling the virtues of Farmer John's hot dogs - I could root for the Dodgers to lose without listening to the play-by-play, but Vin made it worthwhile.

The man's a national treasure. If you get a chance to listen to him call an inning, savor it - TV will do but the great baseball announcers are best heard over radio. And Vin Scully's voice won't be gracing the radio waves on late summer nights forever.
