Doesn’t that depend on what the definition of “is” is?

That would make no difference.

Is “45mph” the correct “wrong” answer?

No. The most popular "wrong" answer is 60mph.

What is the circumference of a Moebius strip?

Same as the mileage Michelle Obama has chalked up on AF1.

Let me clarify my last remark.

The difference it would make is that the driver would probably be screaming that last mile or so.

However, it would never get him a 30mph average no matter how fast he dropped.

You are quite correct. One would have to have quite a few seconds to drop a mile, and that would cut the average back. I'm estimating about six seconds, neglecting air resistance. When I get home I'll figure it out.

I guess the specification was 15.00000 mph for the first 1.0000 mile uphill. There was no specification as to the downhill grade.

Here's another one.

In your physics lab, you are given a very precise barometer, with the task of using it to determine the height of the 15-story building down the street (within, say, a couple of feet), in order to pass the course.

Tell us how you would use the barometer to determine the height.

What is the circumference of a Moebius strip? (imardmd1)

The length of the outmost edge of the strip (tacticallogic)

And that is . . . ?

so that would require 6 feet 3 3/8 inches

Close enough but neither calculus nor differential calculus is required.

If the diameter of the earth is 8,000 miles then it requires 132.633,600 feet of rope to encircle the earth.

C = 2 π R
π = 3.14
R in feet = 4,000 miles x 5280 feet = 21,120,000 feet

C = 2 x 3.14 x 21,120,000 feet
C = 132,633,600 feet of rope

Raise the rope 1 foot.

C = 2 x 3.14 x 21,120,001 feet
C = 132,633,606.28 feet of rope

132,633,606.28 – 132,633,600 = 6.28 feet, which is how much longer the rope must be to raise it 1 foot off the surface along the circumference.

Just a tip, measure twice, cut once. Be sure to bring a lot more rope than you think you need. And Good Luck.
