I will take David Axelrod at his word that even he thinks the Perry indictment is bogus.
But, let's stop and think for a second on why David Axelrod would speak against this indictment. Remember this is David Axelrod!!!
If Axelrod viewed Perry as a threat to win the WH in 2016, he would not have said a word on this indictment or he would have already talking points drafted shining a spotlight on this.
In his strategic view, Axelrod hopes Perry is the nominee for 2016, but this indictment thing might ruin it.
Anyway, for Perry's sake, I think this indictment thing will go away as it should because it is bogus.
I do believe however, Axelrod is trying to send a signal to Texas democrats that he does not see Perry as a threat in 2016.
With that being said, I'm sure David Axelrod will not speak against any current or upcoming bogus controversies surrounding Chris Christie, Scott Walker, or Paul Ryan

Explain why Axelrod said anything at all.
Based on the theory that he said something because he’s concluded Perry isn’t viable for 2016, why would he bother? Better to ignore it like Perry didn’t even exist.
Otherwise we are supposed to make Axelrod our weather vane for GOP political candidates’ viability?
I don’t care whether Axelrod thinks Perry is viable or not viable for 2016. I take absolutely nothing from his odd yappings - one way or the other.
If he is signaling something about Perry it’s irrelevant.
If he’s just yapping to be yapping, who cares?
It could just be simply that the local TX Democrats over-reached badly, and Axelrod wants to keep the national level clear of this one.
Contrasting to the DeLay indictment: the fact is that there was enough going on to make things look bad for DeLay, even if none of it was illegal, it certainly looked to an outsider like secretive and shady dealings. If he was cleared (as he eventually was), you could shrug it off on a technicality.
The Perry indictment, however, makes Swiss cheese look like the model of structural integrity. Perry was very public about what he was doing and why he was doing it. He also has complete legal authority as governor to use the line item veto for any reason whatsoever. Furthermore, Perry’s action was popular. The legal gymnastics the prosecutor has to go through to get this indictment in the first place will get the whole thing dismissed in near record time. If anything, the prosecutor himself might face charges of abuse of office and malicious prosecution.
No, I think Axelrod just wants to be as far away from this train wreck as possible. No ulterior motives are needed beyond that.

Yes,that's one plausible explanation.But another equally plausible one is that he recognizes that the Rat Party is at least as vulnerable,if not more,to such underhanded tactics.He might even have one or two specific fellow travelers in mind regarding that vulnerability.
(For those who are old enough to remember, the Rathergate debacle started more or less here in Travis County.)
Or he thinks that Texas Democrats from places like Travis County are so around-the-bend bat-dung looney they can only do harm at a broader level.

As long as all the interlopers from Kalifornia, India, and the NE are moving here, drawn by the tech boom , Austin will remain a liberal bastion. Look at the city council, they want to he like Portland or San Francisco so bad they can’t stand it. This was a fun place back in the late 80’s early 90’s. It is night and day from what it was then.

Axelrod showed his hand with a soft implication in that tweet. This indictment is more about Texas Dems attacking Greg Abbot than bringing down Perry. Abortion Barbie has already attacked Abbot back in May over the PIU investigation and claims of his negligence in oversight with regards to the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The DA affair involving Perry witholding funding of the PIU is merely the opening shot of Austin lefty mud slinging. Anyone who thinks Axelrod is defending Perry on this is smoking commo wire. This is classic leftist rope a dope tactics and Abbot is the main target.
