Impact of "Ferguson" type events on police officers.

Maybe our LEO Freepers can address this question. Does an event like "Ferguson" impact how you handle a crime involving suspects with a different ethnicity than yours?

TOPICS:
KEYWORDS: crime; policeofficer; race; shooting

“ethnicity”

Ethnicity has nothing to do with it IMHO. Cops probably murder more whites than blacks overall. (not to mention peoples pets)

Cops are on a power trip. They don’t care who they kill. You must submit or be killed.

The wannabe OWS bitches have long since driven FReeper cops away.

Stop having it be official policy to shoot dogs that bark or growl and display teeth and start to make progress on the human treatments.

While I am no fan of Law Enforcement brutality, are they implying that if a youth is unarmed, black, violent and going for your gun it’s okay to let him? Geez!

Ha! Here in AR, the cops will call in sick, if overwhelmed, and then the Rednecks can dispense justice and security. yeah haw!

Exactly. I’m not a big fan of the increasing militarism of police departments. But I am sympathetic to the cop on the beat that has to deal with the worst of the worst parts of the city, often alone. If this guy was in fact wrestling with the cop for the cops’ weapon, he’s no longer an “unarmed teenager” or whatever the media are calling him today. Deadly force is entirely reasonable in that case.

Absolutely! Hence, “unarmed” means nothing!

Are we getting to the point then that only black officers can patrol black areas? Should only white officers patrol white parts of town? What about Chinese or Korean parts of town? How come they aren’t demanding Asian police officers?

But if the witnesses’ stories are correct and the victim had been running away and put his hands up in surrender before the cop fired the shots that killed him, then that’s a different story.

I had zero sympathy for the Trayvon Martin crowd, but I’m not so sure this isn’t murderous.

Even assuming he tried to get the cops gun, he failed. The police officer retained possession of his gun and control of it. So even if that had happened when he shot the kid he was running away and unarmed. How is that justified?

Agreed, and it pisses me off. Our inner cities become more like Fallujah with each passing day. Thank God we've got cops willing to go in there where these armchair quarterbacks fear to tread.

If it's like you say it is not. If the kid was shot during the wrestling match.... That's different.

Considering all of the police hatred I have been seeing on FR lately, I wonder how many officers want to “out” themselves here.

I saw the cop that lived next door to me on the news the other night. He was escorting some Hamas cheerleaders out of the Ann Arbor city council meeting that they were disrupting.

He moved out here because those tolerant liberals in Ann Arbor were threatening his wife and young daughters. Out here he didn’t have to worry about them all day while he was clown wrangling.

My career was a learning experience. I started a naive 25 year old. I quickly learned that there is another world and two sets of rules in America. There are what one would consider normal rules of society and inner city rules of conduct. It is a 3rd world country and monetary system in operation with the ‘normal’ society.

I also learned that most of the time your hated by everybody. Bad cops give you a black eye, animosity between races and ‘the system’ causes untold problems. The media uses and lies about you to sell and sensationalize papers. There are cops who cozy up to the media, giving them inside information in exchange for favorable treatment.

I could go on and on and hardly scratch the surface. I’ve learned that good people and bad people come in all colors and I was thankful to deal with the good ones. I also learned that people of all skin colors would be willing to assault or kill me if they got the chance.

That was just my experience in my corner of the world. Some of the things I saw and heard about would probably not even be believed by most people. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction. Initially it was addicting but after a while you just want off.

I salute my brother cops who are out there doing the job to the best of their ability day in and day out. Keep the faith, be safe and watch your back, from inside and outside. I’m just sayin’

I wasn’t gonna comment but, really, how much of a lame-brain do you have to be to believe that this cop shot this guy with his hands up in the air and running away from him? Really! I think that some people are so divorced from reality that they believe a cop would deliberately shoot a guy publicly, for all the world to see, (without some justification) in this day and age? For what? So, that he or his family are subject to death threats. So that Obama’s Justice Department might come in and try him for civil rights violations? So, he can be prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Office and sent to the state pen? Yeah, it sounds to me like this cop wanted to put himself in this kind of jeopardy for some clown on this street, who he didn’t even know!

There is a lot of forensic evidence to be examined. All I can say is if that cop is innocent, his buddies better do their jobs well (professionally)!

I’ve personally known several cops who aren’t on power trips and never killed (as cops that is, different story over in the sandbox) nor wanted to kill other people. Like every group, the police force had good apples and bad apples.
