Ice Cream Shop Owner Defends Creating Flavor for Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz

The owner of an Oregon ice cream shop is defending her decision to create an ice cream flavor for the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon recently announced that it would have a political fundraising event at What’s the Scoop? in Portland, Oregon. The ice cream store created a flavor especially for the abortion business and donated 10 percent of its sales to the abortion giant.

whatsthescoopPlanned Parenthood announced:

What’s the Scoop? is a sustainable, small-batch shop that creates ice cream and sorbets using liquid nitrogen – a revolutionary method that speeds up the freezing process, which translates into much smaller ice crystals and an extraordinary creaminess. They’re generously donating 10% of sales to PPAO – and they’ve even prepared a limited-edition ROSE CITY REVOLUTION flavor exclusively for us! Here are a few of the flavors on the menu:

• ROSE CITY REVOLUTION: Honey vanilla ice cream + candied rose petals = Portland power! An exclusive flavor for “Ice Cream for Planned Parenthood!”

Now, the owner of What’s the Scoop? is defending the decision. And, unfortunately, some of the pro-life people complaining to the store are allegedly harassing the owners instead of leaving politely-worded complains.

From a report:

Earlier this morning, N. Williams ice cream shop What’s the Scoop? received a deluge of sometimes “threatening” messages after word spread on social media (and one virulently anti-abortion blog) about its fundraising ice cream flavor for Planned Parenthood. The recurring fundraiser — during which Scoop? donates 10 percent of proceeds to a rotating organization, plus 50 percent of proceeds if a collaborative ice cream flavor is involved — happened yesterday, with the shop offering scoops of its special “Rose City Revolution” flavor, featuring honey vanilla ice cream and rose petals.

But the online backlash extended through the evening and into this morning, and Scoop? owner Jodie Ostrovsky admits that “we’re still wrapping our minds around the reactions… It was the second fundraiser we have done with Planned Parenthood, the first one went off without any reactions or comments.”

Ostrovsky says the shop has received threatening phone calls in response to the fundraiser, including “very disturbing” messages left on the store’s voicemail. Anti-abortion activists also directed messages toward the shop on Facebook and Twitter. But she stands firm: “Planned Parenthood is an amazing organization that does so much to help women have access to affordable healthcare,” she says. “The fact that some people only focus on what is such an infinitesimal part of the service they provide is confusing to me.”

It’s not, confusing, it’s very simple. Planned Parenthood is the biggest abortion business in the Untied States, annually killing more than 330,000 babies in abortions while helping a miniscule percentage of women with adoption services or pregnancy support.

Fortunately, the ice cream business is wrapping up its Planned Parenthood fundraiser and moving on to legitimate charities.

But Ostrovsky says recent attention to the threats and social media onslaught has shifted responses. “Conversely, we have received a wonderful outpouring of support from our ice cream community as well as the general public. I get a little nervous when the phone rings, but the last few calls have been very positive and the tide on Facebook is beginning to shift.” What’s the Scoop?’s next charity event benefits Cystic Fibrosis, and Ostrovsky says there’s no plan to extend the Planned Parenthood benefit in response to the outpouring of support. But “wouldn’t it be wonderful if the little publicity we received over this helped them raise more money next year?”

Now, the owner of What’s the Scoop? is defending the decision.

If she thinks it's the right thing to do, then she absolutely should defend her decision and run her business as she chooses.

So, would people have “left polite complaints” if an ice cream shop created a flavor in honor of the Holocaust?

And yet, to your point, that is precisely what she did.

I hope they go out of business.

They will, but not because they will lose customers over this.

They will go out of business because they will spend time and effort pushing dubious promotions like this instead of sticking to their knitting.

Lots of lefty non-locals will show up in the next couple of weeks to show their support, the proprietors will take the new business for granted, and will spend money and make plans around their temporary windfall, and then the very short-lived boom will be over and they will be overextended.

Plenty of people will go out of their way once to make a political point. Once.

Great idea. I know the thought of abortion always make me want to grab a nice ice cream cone.

Well, I guess the ice cream shop wants to celebrate how much ice cream they are not selling because all the kids who would have eaten it are dead.

Sustainable? I’m pretty sure that any amount of liquid nitrogen that she uses is made industrially, almost certainly NOT with wind or solar power. I would not call making air so cold that it liquifies and then distilling it sustainable in her sense of the word. She is probably the a person who would decry the use of chemical nitrogen for fertilizer (though technically all fertilizer in any form is a chemical)though in this form it is somehow acceptable.

I’m sure a percentage of the calls are from folks who are pro-abortion but trying to make the pro-lifers look bad. But the genuinely anti-abortion folks that make threats like that don’t help the cause in my opinion.

How about the “White Traash Toffee” that he uses in one of his flavors?

Axis Sally spouted lies for a genocidal entity as well.

She should have every right to create the flavors she wants; it is her business. Whether we agree or disagree with her reasoning should not determine what she can do. Then we would be just as hypocritical is those who argue against Hobby Lobby, Chik-fil-a, etc.

If making a flavor that promotes baby murder causes her to lose business, let that be method that communicates the message.
