State: FDA study finds Alaska fish safe from Fukushima radiation

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has found that Alaska seafood is safe from Fukushima radiation, but a citizen’s group plans to conduct a separate study of the water in lower Cook Inlet using a crowdsource funding site.

“The (FDA) results confirm information from federal, state and international agencies that seafood in the North Pacific and Alaska waters poses no radiation related health concerns to those who consume it,” said a statement released by state health and environmental officials.

The FDA review was based on a sampling plan developed by the departments of Environmental Conservation and Health and Social Services, the agencies said. Analyzed were several Alaska fish species harvested by commercial, sport and subsistence fishermen that migrate from the western Pacific Ocean.

what was the mean % incremental increase in radioactivity?
did it follow geometric mapping?

What, did the FDA take a break from buying weapons and harassing small farmers?

I’m guessing this “citizen’s group” will raise $16,895 for their study. Go take a hike on the beach on a sunny day, open up the 10 to 20 clams they find along the way, and if they look ucky or smell, count them as contaminated. Decontamination procedure will include a cooler of beer.

And post “We discovered at least 30% of the clams on the beach are contaminated.”

If crowd-sourcing can produce a good study, why do we need an FDA? I’ll bet the private group does it cheaper and better too.

I am not a “nukear” engineer, but I do not understand how
radioactive water from Japan, mixed into the Pacific Ocean
could have any significance 6000 miles away.

Oh by the way, how many members of congress have investments that are related to the fortunes of the fishing industry?

Would they really tell you if the fish were radiated?

It’s the largest fishery in the world. The state would collapse without it.

And with that news, I’ll no longer eat fish from that coast.

Some here would AND tell you the fish were safe to eat before the FDA tested them.

They better keep testing. The radiation levels in the water under the plant keep skyrocketing. Doubles every month now. And also the radiation levels in the ocean around Fukushima keeps rising dramatically. Since the Ice Wall project has failed, there is literally no way to hold it back. The plant was built over an aquifer that required numerous wells pumping water to keep the ground dry and stable. Those wells no longer work.

Not an official conspiracy until the government denies it ?

There are massive unheard of die offs occurring along the US west coast right now. Starfish. The bivalve eaters. Bivalves filter the water and are very good bioaccumulators.

You are correct. You could take all the nuclear waste that mankind has produced since Hiroshima, dilute it in just one cubic mile of seawater, and safely drink a glass of that water every day for the rest of your life. And the Pacific Ocean contains over a hundred million cubic miles of water.
