A Myrtle Beach man is being sought in connection with a loaded pistol that was left on the shelf in the toy department of a local Target department store, according to Myrtle Beach police.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department identifies the suspect as David Dennis. His is wanted on a charge of unlawfully carrying of a handgun in connection with the incident.
According to State Law Enforcement Division records, Dennis was previously charged with armed robbery in October 2013. The robbery charge was dismissed in March, but he pleaded guilty to assault and battery, second degree, according to the Horry County Public Index.
He was sentenced to four months in prison, but received credit for time served, the index states. On May 30, a loaded 9mm handgun was recently found in the toy aisle of the Myrtle Beach Target, according to a Myrtle Beach police report.
A loss prevention officer said he noticed an empty wrapper in the toy aisle. Thinking someone had shoplifted, he investigated further and found the black pistol sitting on the shelf.
The police report said the gun was lying in a Marvel Superhero Playskool toy box and was in plain view. At first the loss prevention officer thought it was a toy gun, but then noticed it was fully loaded with live ammunition, according to the report.
The report said earlier there was a suspicious black male walking around the toy section several times, and at one point was in the aisle where the gun was found. He appeared "nervous and fidgety," the report continued.
Police took possession of the handgun. A check of the weapon showed it was not stolen. The gun and eight ammo rounds were placed into evidence.

4 months for armed robbery that was plead down to 2nd degree assault? Can’t be too tough on Obama’s people or they might get upset.

Sounds like the guy removed the gun from his waistband so he could stuff store merchandise down his pants, set it down and then forgot to pick it back up before heading out.

"4 months for armed robbery that was plead down to 2nd degree assault?"

It's possible the prosecutor didn't have enouogh evidence to get the robbery conviction so he took what he could get. That happens all the time.

Following the link to the article, another SOB.

Then again, SOB or not, [early onset] Alzheimer's could account for it.

Recently saw that story line in a cop drama with an aging detective.

OTOH, autopsies on relatively young drug addicts have shown the same grey-cell deterioration as older Alzheimer's sufferers.
