Offensive graffiti stops bridge project in Amesbury

AMESBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – An Amesbury man says someone sprayed offensive graffiti near his home on a beam that is part of a construction project, which was brought to a screeching halt due to the vandalism.

Scott Taylor lives just feet from where a massive bridge project is happening on Interstate 95, and he says construction workers have been scattering debris all over his yard for almost a year. He woke up to the graffiti this week and that sent him over the edge. The message? “Welcome to Fallujah, baby.”

"I think it's pathetic. I think it's cowardly. And I think it's just despicable and vulgar behavior," Taylor said.

The message was written on the beam just days after Taylor complained to the Newburyport Daily News about the bridge project located a few feet from his property. In the article, he compares his living situation to living in Fallujah.

"The quote that I made about, you know this is Amesbury and not Fallujah, meaning we shouldn’t have to live under this constant level of potential danger," Taylor said.

The graffiti is just the latest incident Taylor has dealt with since the project started last summer. He has been cleaning the debris scattered in his yard since the project began, and says that he could easily fill 10 buckets with it.

The situation reached a tipping point a few weeks ago when Taylor shot a video of a huge girder coming loose just feet from the home he shares with his wife and three young daughters.

You don’t tug on superman’s cape
You don’t piss into the wind
You don’t pull the mask off that old lone ranger
And you don’t mess around with a crane operater with a 40 ton beam and his crew..

Learn it live it love it

[”Taylor shot...”Is that allowed in the Peoples’ Republic of Mass.?]

I lived there for two years. One day I tried to rent a nail gun to speed up a project I was working on. The rental store clerk asked to see my state pistol permit. No joke. Under state law you had to have a pistol permit to buy or rent a nail gun. This was around 1986.

(Not) Funny...

What about people who might be driving vehicles that have pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners?

Did Route 95 suddenly appear after he bought his house?

I doubt it.

I disagree on this point. If the crane operator is messing around, he deserves to die if the crane collapses.

Keep in mind that this is probably the most liberal town in Mass and contains a huge number of massholes.

Must be the Whittier Bridge project. Just checked on Google Earth. Nearest building is more than 100 feet away. The article "just feet" brought back images of Boston's elevated train going through Roxbury about 20 feet from tenement housing. Taylor is a whiner. Gotta be an Obama voter.

I don't know but I think it would be easier to drive up to New Hampshire and buy a pistol and ammo rather than trying to use a pre-tensioner to shoot somebody. Though I'm sure people have figured out how to turn the things into weapons.

What size bucket? A five gallon bucket? A two gallon wash bucket? Ten buckets over a year doesn’t sound extreme, annoying but not extreme.

It’s a NAIL GUN!

You’d probably have to shoot your victim a hundred times to kill him!

You’re probably looking at the old bridge. The new one being built next to it is less than 20 feet from the guy’s home. I’m surprised MassDOT did not exercise eminent domain on the house.

There is no excuse for anything to fall into his yard. 1. He owns the airspace over his yard all the way to the edge of space. It is a trespass. 2. It is very dangerous to have his property bombarded by falling objects. I would call OSHA and let them take on harassing the contractor.

If there is any damage to his tree where the beam hit it he has proof that they screwed up big time. Again, OSHA is his friend. They could have to write a new safety plan 5000 pages long for that one.

He will be able to collect big from the airlines then, eh?

If they damaged his tree, then yes, they are responsible for the damage.

Citizens don’t own much in this country any longer. Skip paying your taxes or if the government decides they need your land *poof* gone.

Put up a sign prohibiting the dumping of waste and fine them $5,000 per violation.
