The owners of a farm shop and tea shop were puzzled to find one of their two camels was giving birth on Thursday – as both camels are female.

Andrew and Maria Henshaw had no idea that Doris the camel, which lives with its half-sister Delilah, was pregnant until it began to calve.

Mr Henshaw, a farmer, who runs the Mainsgill Farm Shop near Richmond, North Yorkshire, suspects that Doris, who has not been near a male camel from more than a year, was impregnanted before she was brought from Cornwall to North Yorkshire.

Look at Doris, the mother camel. To me, she looks like a Llama or a Mountain Goat. I didn’t know Camels could be long haired like this one. The zoo is lucky, that Doris accepts her calf and doesn’t ignore or try to harm him. The mother also allows the zookeeper to be present and move about within close proximity of ‘Sugar Dumpling’. O.K. Doris, out with it, who (or what) is your Baby Daddy? Maybe I should call Maury Povich.

Well, we have alpacas - they are camelids - they have an average 344-day gestation period. We test for pregnancies, but you are never really 100% sure until you see “nose and toes” of a new baby arriving. So I can see where they purchased a camel and got the bonus afterwards...

It’s not a zoo, it’s a shop.

Camels have become a somewhat popular animal for the “gentlemen farmers” here in Vermont. They seem to do pretty well through the winters here.

Joe Camel always looked like a sneaky dude. I will bet he snuck in and humped her.

Q: Why are camels called “ships of the desert”?

A: Because they’re full of Arab semen.

Doris is a Bactrian camel, (Two humps). They are the Gobi desert version, where they need the extra fur. (The baby has the start of his/her/it's two humps.}

A common mistake. The question is who the immigrant was that was thrilled that a girl from Back Home was near by.

Obviously, one is transgendered and is actually a female trapped in a male’s body - since he/she feels female normally, he/she must have lost control at some point. Alcohol may have been involved.
