It turns out that the rules are pretty simple.

Fat butt, not a big health problem. Fat belly, is a health problem.

Exercise is good, even if it is not associated with weight loss but this more true about fat butt rather than fat belly. It doesn’t even need to be vigorous to be helpful.

Don’t be tired of real research. It is actually good to know facts rather than consensus.

But I thought the science was settled!

A governmental science entity can’t have had an ulterior motive can they? (infested with ‘diet for a small planet’ co-religionists)

The food pyramid was drawn by ADM.

I read ears ago that the food pyramid was developed so that really poor people could get enough food, i.e., rice, beans, bread, etc.

But it was said by whatever writer that if one could afford meats, fish and fresh vegetables, that was the better diet.

But now we do not seem to have any really poor as there is so much subsidized housing and foodstamps. And the very poor of yesteryear did more hard work So now we have this pyramid which gives basically idle people the idea that they can eat endless quantities of bread, pasta, etc.

This low fat diet and goal of low fats in our blood may be the biggest scam ever foisted on Americans.

There may be some validity in families, where there are early deaths due to cardiac events and high so called undesirable fats in the patients blood stream.

This low fat bs was pushed in its early days supposedly to prevent early heart attacks/stroke. Now it is being pushed for those of us in our 70’s and 80’s, even to those of us with zero genetic history of early heart attacks, with parents/grandparents and siblings living to their late 70’s, 80’s an 90’s.

How many of us know of a relative or friend in their 70’s to 80’s being put on a low fat diet and poisoned by the anti statin drugs, developing alzheimer’s or some senior mental impairment.

If you know someone in a fairly high position in a hospital or clinical lab, after a glass or two of wine, ask them if they are seeing increases of cancers in the those being treated with the statin lowering drugs.

Eat a balanced diet, enjoy your glass of wine or two or beer and go on enjoyable walks. Have a core of good friends and hold your family with love. Even if you don’t live longer, you will be happier.

Very sound advice.

Seriously. And it’s not like no one profited from all the misinformation and just bad dietary advice. Not to mention the whole idea of NHS. A fit healthy population is FAR less likely to buy into governmental control of their health. An expensively sickly one will do that in a new york minute.

Corruption. It’s not just for other countries anymore.

Maybe if scientists stuck to science (see Scientific Method) and stayed out of politics and policy cheerleading, we would not go through these.roller coaster cycles.

Sorry for the slight tangent

I think you just about covered the problems with this story. We never had an "obesity" crisis; but, the govt. started pushing grains and carbs as healthier for us; and, voila!, an obesity crisis.

I knew a woman in her 70's who ate very healthy diet, where the only meat she ever ate was white meat chicken. Her doctor ended up having to put her on two different cholesterol medicines at once because her diet, and one pill wasn't handling her cholesterol problems. She was healthy, had a good weight (no fat at all on her body, really), she exercised; but, her body had a problem with cholesterol.

Statin blockers are another horror story, especially for a woman like this.

Thanks as usual for your excellent remarks.

"Seriously. And it’s not like no one profited from all the misinformation and just bad dietary advice. Not to mention the whole idea of NHS. A fit healthy population is FAR less likely to buy into governmental control of their health. An expensively sickly one will do that in a new york minute."

Your last two sentences above should be a clear warning to those of us not wanting Obozo Care nor some liberals trying to control our lives as per their agendas.

Good for her and you. Keep her off the poison, the statins.

Worth repeating, even after someone else repeated it! At least, this geezer with 4 grandkids thinks so...
