8 Ridiculous Myths About Eating Meat
Business Insider ^ | 02/27/2014 | KRIS GUNNARS, AUTHORITY NUTRITION

There is a lot of nonsense in nutrition. One of the worst examples is the constant propaganda against meat consumption.

Here are 8 ridiculous myths about meat consumption and health.

1. Meat Rots in Your Colon

Some people claim that meat doesn’t get digested properly and “rots” in your colon.

This is absolute nonsense, probably invented by dishonest vegans in order to scare people away from eating meat.

What happens when we eat meat, is that it gets broken down by stomach acid and digestive enzymes. In the small intestine, the proteins are broken down into amino acids and the fats are broken down into fatty acids.

After that, they get absorbed over the digestive wall and into the bloodstream. There’s nothing left to “rot” in your colon. If you want to know what really “rots” in your colon, it’s indigestible plant matter (fiber)… from vegetables, fruits, grains and legumes.

The human digestive system doesn’t have the enzymes necessary to break downfiber, which is why it travels all the way to the colon. There, it gets fermented (rots) by the friendly bacteria in the intestine, which turn it into nutrients and beneficial compounds like the short-chain fatty acid butyrate (1).

This is what keeps the friendly bacteria alive and many studies are showing that feeding these bacteria properly is incredibly important for optimal health (2, 3). So, meat doesn’t rot in the colon. Plants do… and this is actually a good thing.

Bottom Line: The nutrients in meat are broken down and absorbed way before they reach the colon. However, fiber from plants does ferment (“rot”) in the colon, which is actually a good thing as it feeds the friendly bacteria.

The biggest problem with meat consumption in (at least) the U.S. is the the final product is so bastardized from its natural state I do not consider it healthy.

We feed dead & diseased animals, along with their manure, to other animals (who, themselves, are not normally meat-eaters, to boot).

We pump livestock and/or poultry full of antibiotics, growth hormones, anti-parasitic drugs & other fun stuff.

We add bleach (among other chemicals) to store-bought beef, poultry & fish to make it look prettier.

I could go on.

You will find black pepper is better to put on a steak after it is cooked and rested. The high heat used to cook a steak can make the pepper bitter.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just slap an organic sticker on something and charge double the usual price. What a BRILLIANT scam. The same type of people who think they are helping the environment by driving Priuses have fallen for it hook, line, an sinker.

Unfortunately my wife loves Whole Foods and my niece works there as well. Fortunately we do our big grocery shoppings at other more affordable supermarkets. But to appease my wife we still go there often for a few items here and there. The Whole Foods in our area is a huge gathering place for liberals. I feel like I’m in Democrat Party HQ when I’m in there. One thing I do like is all of the free samples they have in there. Liberals do believe in the free lunch concept.

I love all of these people covered from head to toe with tattooes and piercings thinking they are living healthy lifestyles.

I know at least 3 in my team at work. They’re all quite healthy. One guy reported curing a whole bunch of health problems by going vegetarian and the other two are girls - have no problem maintaining the same weight. They both look younger than they are.

“Any FReeper out there have any good recipes for buffalo steak?”

Yup, have a farm near us that sells it. We simply plop a nice ribeye on the grill with lemon pepper and cook to medium rare. It doesn’t need anything else! Delicious.

Strangely enough, meat is often blamed for Western diseases like heart disease and type 2 Diabetes. Heart disease didn’t become a problem until the early 20th century and type 2 diabetes only a few decades ago...These diseases are new… but meat is an old food.

True enough. But till recently financial considerations made meat a relatively unusual food for most people.

Only the nobility and wealthy ate large amounts of meat, historically speaking.

So they might want to study, if they can, the rates of heart disease in the wealthy vs. most people in the past.

Also, diabetes is not a new disease. Hippocrates and Galen described it quite accurately, though of course they didn't understand the cause.

One chef's tip - it's lots less trouble if it's a dead buffalo.

Vegans are monsters.

Animals can move about, plants can not.

Vegans rip plants from Gaia's womb.

Vegans are monsters.

“That reminds me...

Any FReeper out there have any good recipes for buffalo steak?”

Rub it with olive oil, salt and pepper and on the grill.

Make rosemary potatoes with it and string beans almandine.

About once every couple years when I’m in the city, I’ll drive by Whole Foods just to see the sights.

There’s one of them hipster vegans here at work.
I asked him if he wanted a bite of my burger. He is not the kind of ‘in-your-face’ vegan like some. He knows I know the answer to that question but he plays along anyway.

(But I could see the look in his eyes - he wanted to answer ‘yes. yes I do.’)

It is a horrible existance. It sucks. WHY? Why do that? Why do something you hate and then pretend to like it to be trendy and hipster? Admit it. You hate it. It sucks!

Most vegans do it simply because its hipster to do it. Its in style and they make every attempt to make sure EVERYONE knows it.
I never bring up in casual conversation that I eat meat. Most vegans tell you twenty five times in the first 5 seconds of knowing them. And you are supposed to say something like, “oh thats cool”. They will not stop until you respond positively and tell them how upworldly trendy they are.

The Old saying = How can you tell a person is a vegan? You don’t have to. He will tell you. ...and your friends, and your friends’ friends, and anyone in earshot over and over and over again.
