NFL could pull Super Bowl if Arizona religious rights bill passes

Call it what you want -- anti-gay or religious rights -- but if Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signs a controversial bill, you might not be calling Arizona the home of the 2015 Super Bowl.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, S.B. 1062, is the current controversy du jour out of Arizona, and the National Football League is with the opposition.

“Our policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or any other improper standard,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told USA Today. “We are following the issue in Arizona and will continue to do so should the bill be signed into law, but will decline further comment at this time.”

And if the NFL does that then I will never watch another NFL game nor purchase another NFL item. Hopefully many more will join me in F’n the NFL if they follow through with that threat.

A couple years ago the NFL had a strike going on that was threatening to close down the season if unresolved — I was rooting for the strike to continue, as people that would be distracted by it might stumble upon Fast & Furious, which was probably at the height of its 'popularity' in the press about that time.

They refused Rush an ownership. Seems they are the typical liberal bigots.

NFL: Negros, Felons, and Liberals. No one else is welcome.

Another gay-cott: The ABC-TV mini series Stephen King’s The Stand was to film in Boulder, CO, where part of the story takes place. Filming took place in another state though due to an anti-gay law in Colo.; King’s daughter Naomi is a lesbian, I believe.

Wiki: “Originally, parts of the miniseries were to be filmed on location in Boulder, Colorado. After the passage of Colorado Amendment 2, which nullified local gay rights laws, the production was moved to Utah in protest.”

If "doing the right thing" was the "easier" choice ... everyone would do it. That would not make for a very effective winnowing fork on Judgment Day. Be wary, Jan Brewer, you are the leader of a Christian people and will be held to that standard at the end of your days. Even if you would not defend us, save yourself.

No more Super Bowls in Texas until the State Constitution is amended to allow same sex marriage.

Jerry Jones is going to be caught between a rock and a hard place on this one. I'll bet that will apply to other national events, such as the Final Four in basketball, etc.

How about this: If the NFL pulls the Super Bowl from Arizona, we ask the American Family Association to sponsor a boycott of the Super Bowl. I'd sign the petition and turn off the TV on game day. Not a problem.

The corporatists pulled this $hi^ with the Boy Scouts too and they’re the ones pulling the strings on the GOP establishment. Not opitimistic here...

They wouldn’t give us the SB while MLK Day wasn’t a holiday either. Nothing new about this leverage.

Tit for tat - NFL officials are not permitted to visit AZ, for any reason whatsoever. Want to raise the stakes? Up the income tax for non-residents. Want to raise it more? Sue the NFL for breach of contract.

AZ can keep it up all day and all night.

Say I’m a photographer with a public studio. Someone comes to me, say a Mr. Vito Corelone, and wants me to take some pictures. Can I refuse because he’s Italian, or I think a Mafia Don? No.

Now suppose Mr Corelone wants me to take pictures of his next hit against Mr. Luco Brasi. He wants to document Luco “sleeping with the fishes”. Can I refuse? I damn well should be allowed to! Can you image being forced to participate in such a thing?

Then you might say, well, this is different. Murder is illegal, gay marriage isn’t. Well actually, gay marriage is NOT legal in Arizona. So it is similar.

No one is refusing Don Corleone’s rights by not agreeing to photo his hit. They would IF they refused because he was Italian.

There, NFL, is the difference.

I hope Brewer stays strong. I think it’s time WE draw the line in the sand. I am sicken every day by what is happening to my country. I feel it no longer represents me, just gays and illegal aliens. I pray every day for a leader to emerge that we could all get behind and take back our country, by whatever means necessary. We can’t continue to sit on our hands and hope it will get better. It won’t unless we take a stand. It’s time to oust our so called leaders our on their petards.

Once gay marriage is legal your analogy doesn’t stand up. Best argue on religious grounds of the business that they should not be forced to provide that product to those customers.
