Michael Sam — who is hoping to become the first openly gay player in NFL history — made a good impression during his media press conference on Saturday. But on on the field Monday he couldn't do the same thing. Sam needed to show he has more athleticism, but the suddenly scrutinized Missouri defensive end struggled to do that.

The NFL is going to pot real fast. They just instituted a brand new rule that says if any other player uses the world’s absolute worst word which is another term for negro the team he’s on gets an automatic 15 yard penalty. That’s right, you are going to be penalized if you say a “bad word”. How long before this rule applies to anyone calling another player a fag? It’s right around the corner. I can just see a black player getting penalized for calling another black a n*****.
He’ll start raising cain and say “oh man, what you talkin’ bout, brothas call each other dat word all de time, it only be a bad word if whitety use it”. Same thing goes for fags, they call each other that all the time and fag and queer are badges of honor. No kidding.

Yes. He was SEC defensive player of the year, these are traditionally first rounders though he was projected even before his announcement to buck the trend and go no earlier than 3rd round and some had him in the 5th. Right there that makes him a “story” for what’s generally an uninteresting event.
When he goes undrafted he will have a very profitable career blaming Anti Homo sentiment on his inability to get naked in NFL locker rooms.

Thing is, even the most progressive owner knows that they would have an exploding cigar if they draft him. They couldn’t cut, bench, or trade him once he’s on the team without a major backlash from the very people they were trying to appease by choosing him. Best case I see is that nobody picks him so all teams are to blame. His combine performance will help passing on drafting him.

Clearly the NFL’s standards need to be changed to accommodate members of oppressed classes. Did you ever notice there isn’t a single wheelchair patient on any NFL team? Well, on the field, anyway.
One would hope that his, ‘coming out’, was not a cynical attempt at helping his draft selection.

He is presently undersized, by NFL standards, for the defensive line. A stud in college does not necessarily translate into stud status in the NFL.
I think that Sam’s coming out may have been done to force whichever team that drafts him from cutting him. I would be surprised if he gets drafted before the third round.
It will be interesting to see if Goodell gives him a big ol’ hug upon being selected.

And if gay isn’t a choice, then it is a disorder, and as such doesn’t anyone with a disease have the right to seek treatment without harassment?
