Family was strolling along beach in western port of Qunfudah
A Saudi family was reported by social networks to have been swallowed by a giant whale at a beach in the Gulf Kingdom, but authorities on Tuesday denied the news and said a picture that was carried along with the report was a fake.
The report was circulated by thousands of Saudis on social networks and BlackBerry mobiles that a huge whale surfaced at the beach and swallowed the entire family that was strolling in the area in the western port of Qunfudah.
“These reports are not true and the picture which was published along with these reports is totally not correct,” ‘Ajel’ newspaper said, quoting Saudi border guard spokesman in the western region, Colonel Naji Al Jahni.
“We call on all media networks not to publish such rumors which will only spread fear among the people and scare them off the beaches.”

So now the Saudis are social media cretins too. If they read it on Facebook, it must be true.
On another level, it seems that governments love social media and the downfall of real news outlets. Not that the SAudis ever had real news, but once upon a time we did. But we’re tweeting it away.

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though a whale is a very large mammal, its throat is very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
The teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human, it was impossible.

It’s true, I saw it happen. This priest guy and I were talking to a judge about the weather, and slurp! The whale inhaled that poor arab family like they were halal. All the other muslums ran around in circles not knowing what to do. It was awful. The priest, the judge, and I went and had a beer. The priest is the one who took the pictures and uploaded them. I will never forget that day on the beach.
