Pro-life groups to protest Girl Scouts with #Cookiecott Tweetfest on Thursday

February 5, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Soon millions of Americans will be buying Thin Mints from Girl Scouts at churches, street corners, and at neighbors' homes. But according to Human Life Alliance, American Life League, My Girl Scouts Council, and Live Action, those concerned about the sanctity of human life should consider boycotting the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) over the organization's links to pro-abortion organizations and individuals.

The groups are organizing a Tweetfest on Thursday, urging Americans to use the hashtag #Cookiecott on Twitter to draw attention to GSUSA's associations with Planned Parenthood and other abortion organizations and abortion supporters.

The Tweetfest will take place on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central Standard Time.

“The Girl Scouts were once a trusted organization dedicated to character building in young girls and women. Now, GSUSA is abusing that trust,” said American Life League President Judie Brown this week. “Most parents and grandparents remain painfully unaware that GSUSA has introduced so-called ‘family planning’ ideology in its curriculum and promotes groups like Planned Parenthood to our daughters and granddaughters.”

A website set up to promote the Cookiecott criticizes GSUSA for recommending pro-abortion role models, connecting girls to “inappropriate sexual content via official Girl Scout social media accounts,” and for sending millions of dollars to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), which the website says “aggressively promotes youth reproductive/abortion and sexual rights, specifically on behalf of its 10 million members.”

One recent event that sparked the pro-life backlash was when GSUSA sent out a tweet last year on its Twitter account that seemed to support honoring pro-abortion politicians Wendy Davis and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius as “Women of the Year” in 2013.

In a response to that controversy, GSUSA Chief Communications Executive Kelly Parisi told LifeSiteNews that the “confusion stems from an auto-populated tweet linking to an article that mentioned newsmakers from 2013. The tweet simply asked folks to share their opinions about which women should be added to a year-end discussion about news makers in 2013.”

GSUSA also publicly apologized on its blog for the tweet, saying its “intentions were good.” Parisi says GSUSA “does not endorse candidates or take any position on political issues.”

Parisi also repeated GSUSA’s denials that the organization has associations with Planned Parenthood, saying it “does not and will not have a partnership with Planned Parenthood. We have never distributed any materials developed by Planned Parenthood.”

But pro-life activists say they are unconvinced by GSUSA’s denials. In a national survey in 2004, sixteen Girl Scout councils admitted to partnering with Planned Parenthood, around 25 percent of the councils who responded to the survey. That survey was launched after Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. CEO Kathy Cloninger told NBC News, “We have relationships…with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country, to bring information-based sex education programs to girls.”

GSUSA spokeswoman Parisi herself has sparked controversy in recent months, after pro-life activists learned that she moved to her position with the scouting organization directly from her former job as vice president of marketing and communications for the strongly pro-abortion Ms. Foundation for Women, which lists “Reproductive Rights and Health” (including support for taxpayer-funded abortion) first on its list of issues.

Abortion is not the only issue dogging GSUSA. The organization has what TheAdvocate.com calls “LGBT-inclusive policies” that have drawn opposition from pro-family groups. Last year, over 90 Girl Scouts marched in the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade in uniform, while holding Girl Scouts banners.

Clover Valley Cookies from Dollar General

http://voices.yahoo.com/clover-valley-cookies-dollar-general-10380083.html?cat=22

Many people look forward to Girl Scout cookies year after year. The great taste has not changed over the years, but the prices and quantities certainly have. I would rather give a donation to the Girl Scouts and buy similar cookies from Dollar General while saving money in the process. Clover Valley Mint Thin, Fudge Caramel Coconut, and Fudge Peanut Butter cookies are very close if not identical to popular varieties sold by the Girl Scouts. Read on to find out more about Clover Valley cookies from Dollar General, and enjoy some of your favorite cookies all year long - and for a whole lot less.

Grossly Overpriced Sweets in Oversized Boxes

Decades ago it was possible to buy Girl Scout cookies at an affordable price. Just about any family could afford them, but the prices of their products have inflated much faster than our failing economy. The profits per box is still pathetically low for local Girl Scouts. According to GirlScouts.org, locally they only receive between 10 and 20 percent of the cost of each box of cookies. Do the math. If the cookies are $3.50 a box, they might only gain thirty-five cents.

To add insult to injury, the company that makes these cookies has been insulting the intelligence of consumers for years by continually lowering the amounts of products in the packages while raising the prices. Prices are going to go up, but people know these sales schemes. After all, when a box is only half full or when products have shrunk, people realize it. Consumers are more intelligent than companies realize, but they still make these insolent and ridiculous changes to avoid declining profits. Why else would they partially fill boxes? Interior packaging does not settle.

The company that manufactures Girl Scout cookies is still counting on kind and generous people to continue reaching into their wallets as they have for decades, and all in an effort to help. It is the donation that counts, but many well-meaning people can no longer afford them no matter how much they would like to make a donation through a purchase. Some people have discovered Clover Valley from Dollar General instead.

Discovering Clover Valley Cookies from Dollar General

Would you like to enjoy cookies that are similar and possibly identical to those sold by the Girl Scouts? Visit Dollar General, and look for the Clover Valley Brand. This is the brand name affiliated with Dollar General, and they are phenomenal in every way. Clover Valley brand is currently only $1.95 per box in northwest Indiana and they taste and look like those sold by the Girl Scouts.

I will help the Girl Scouts, but I will never buy their cookies again. I would rather buy Clover Valley cookies from Dollar General and give more to the Girl Scouts than they would receive from my meager cookie purchases. They should forego tradition and try something new to earn money for their cause. If prices keep going up, and the contents continue to dwindle, they will have no other choice.

Give a Generous Donation to Your Local Girl Scouts Instead

Save yourself a considerable amount of money, and give the Girl Scouts a blanket donation instead of buying their cookies. Buy Clover Valley cookies from Dollar General instead. In the end, the Girl Scouts will come out ahead, and you will have the cookies you want for less than they were many, many years ago.

Why protest only now, when the GSA has been on the homosexual bandwagon for at least the past decade, and have removed God from their ranks?

10 years ago I was a GS leader and it was not this bad. Even I am shocked at the moral decay in just that amount of time. Maybe, just maybe this act will be the cold water thrown on them that jolts them into reality. I have to believe this is not the GS that Juliette Lowe envisioned.

I’ve been boycotting GS cookies for at least the last 5 years. Every sane conservative should do the same.

I used to buy Hostess Fudge Mint Cookies. They tasted exactly like Girl Scouts Thin Mint Cookies, but they were square and bigger. I’m hoarding my last three packages. I hoped somebody would start making them again, but I can’t find them.

Tell me this doesn't apply to Thin Mints. It doesn't, right? I haven't bought GS cookies since the last buddys last daughter left the cult. 5+ years ago.

I don’t spend my money on these tasteless, overly processed products because I stopped supporting GS many years ago. I just say “No Thank You” with a very nice smile.

The little girls don’t know the political opinions of the Scouts’ liberal bureaucracy. They don’t even know what political opinions are and may never.
