My son was honored at a Boyscouts banquet last night. I got an email that said "There is a banquet on Friday and we would like you and "kidlett czr" to be there". We got a ride from another scout family. It was exciting whey they said they were honoring a couple scouts for top sales. My kidlett czr sold the most popcorn out of the district for boyscouts and his sales helped his troop to be the highest earning troop too! The other scout honored was the highest earning cubscout. The cubscout got a cool hat and kidlett czr got a zippered book cover for his boyscout handbook! He loves it!

Sending out a thank you to those who helped my son receive honors last night at a banquet for the boyscouts. It was wonderful and he was so happy to receive his gift!
BTW...the site is still allowing orders to be credited to his boyscout account so he can get to monthly campouts. That is, if you are interested. :)
So far he is a “scout”...he is a few steps away from his first review...but he lets his fear get in the way. I have one of the counselors working with him to help him get more comfortable with the process. I think if he manages to rank up to Tenderfoot, it will give him the courage to do the other ranks.
Based on your screen name I would guess you are a Scout Master and I would like to ask if you have any tips to help me, help him?

Does your son know those who are on the Troop Committee? Have you introduced them to him? Has the Scoutmaster conducted any type of SM conference with him to explain the Board of Review? Has the Sr. Patrol Leader?
These are just a few of the ways to help, however, the key here is that it is an interview, not a test.
If done properly, it’s actually more of a conversation that is started by asking the Scout questions about his activities, what he does and doesn’t like, etc.

His troop is fairly cozy. The adults all interact with the kids and the kids know them all by name. He tells me he had one meeting to get to scout, but that was VERY easy. He’s afraid the next one will not be as easy.

One of the key things is not to pressure your son; Scouts move at different paces.
If you're friends with one of the Assistant Scoutmasters, or the Scoutmaster, then you may ask them if they're willing to approach him and congratulate him for his achievements, and to offer encouragement. This would be similar to what you've try to do with the counselor. The Scout Leaders could mention he's close to his first board of review and they don't want him to be nervous.
If it's true in your Troop, they can let him know that he's really done all of the work for passing and that the Board of Review is just a formality. Perhaps a couple of leaders would be willing to offer a mock Board of Review so he knows what to expect.
I take it from your prayer threads that you may not be able to help him a lot right now . . . but if you help out with Troop Meetings and a few campouts, he's more likely to advance.
Most of all, don't push him. I've seen a Scout hit Life Scout after two years, then wait until just before his 18th birthday to commit to the requirements for Eagle Scout.
Does he have a friend in BSA about his age who would be willing to work with him to go through advancement at the same time?
We were blessed with having someone provide Cody the ability to order some for himself. He ordered a bag of the white chocolate drizzle...it was AMAZING! I want more of that, and hope my disability goes through soon so I can order another bag! :)
I was a scout for quite a while and I don’t remember any of these Board of Reviews or passing anything. Is this something that has been added? Maybe it is much tougher being a Scout today then in the late 70’s to mid 80’s when I went through. Yieks….it just sounds so difficult. lol.
Mine was the caramel corn. It was a very generous bag, too, for the money! :)

At the lower ranks, the BOR basically consists of reviewing the rank requirement to see if the Scout met the requirements, but in a casual way, such as asking them what they cooked for their patrol instead of pressing whether they cooked.
Usually, you'll ask the Scout what he enjoys about Scouting, and what he's working on.
I go to his meetings and was just asked to contribute by finding service projects for the troop to participate in. I hope to earn the troops confidence in this job and get asked to do more for the troop.
I have this desire to become a voting MEMBER of the troop, but that takes paying the dues and that isn’t possible right now. I’m very tired of having no income...I just wish the disibility dept would get my case decided so I could get things I need for me and my boy. (and the girl too :))

I understand. We had a drop in the number of parents on both our Troop and Crew Committees when the BSA membership fee jumped to $24.
