“Anyone wanting to pry me out of my house will need to bring crowbars, dynamite, and 6 large orderlies.”

There is no place like home.

Finally on the way home from Austin. This time, I’m staying home. Wierd to be posting from a Greyhound bus.

HuH?

I just now returned from Vegas..like fifteen minutes ago. I came home in a plane, though. And while I was gone, my window vent opener for my greenhouse came..I was hoping it would come before I left so my plants wouldn't cook in there. Hven't been out to check the greenhouse yet.

Down to Austin, spend some time, do VA stuff, back here for one day to wash and press the catz, then back to Austin with missing paperwork to finish VA stuff (for the moment).

Cool part was obviously not me driving one round trip, but riding the bus with wifi on it. Not that I want to do that again.... It's like Mary Todd Lincoln saying they had wifi in the lobby of the theater....

Oh..... and Las Vegas, Nevada is different from Las Vegas, New Mexico. I’m thinking you were in Nevada.

I lost my left kidney and spleen and the better part of a month near LV, NM. after a fall from a mountain during a blizzard.

Not much fun, there. But pretty country. ;)

I like to bake sweet potatoes. Add a little salt and sometimes a pat of butter. I also like sweet potato fries, but I don’t eat them that way very often.

There is an old saying that says one is not an expert in his/her home town, that one has to go somewhere else to be considered an expert. That is very true with family.

********************************************************
Lots of truth there. You’re always a youngster to the older people in the family.

Do you know whether they can tolerate the toxins from walnut trees? I have a space near some walnut trees that needs something to grow.

Many people thin out the plants at this stage and just leave one or 2 of the best in each cup. Others have trouble throwing them a way, and so they transplant the seedlings into another cup.

I have had to get out to go to the Doctor’s Office and Pharmacy. Took lots of hand cleaner with me and used it.

I didn't leave anything there except money, so, yes, it was Nevada.I was at ShotShow. If anyone needs a briefcase with a handle that is a gun..a hunting knife that was really a gun.

I was actually hoping to get to a garden center there just to see what they have there, but never got very far away from ShotShow, and the Clark's Shoe Store across the street.

If your sprout is still green, there may still be hope, as it indicates to me that the baby onion is thriving on the food provided by the parent onion.

The one I planted has been growing in height, so that’s exciting. My little sweet potato sprout actually has developed two tiny leaves, and I discovered another one of the harvest potatoes sprouting this morning. Not sure when or if I’ll try to get it into growth medium.

I’ll be happy to continue on the new thread, if that is your preference and if you actually have anything more you want to comment on about it! LOL!

I’ve been doing a lot of containers too, and I was so glad you spoke of your experiences with the T Squash, and I’m eager to get it started when it is the appropriate time in our area! Darlin and I are even planning on putting together a nice trellis for it to climb on!

I’m going to plant three just in case something happens to one or two.

I really don't think that sweet potatoes would be happy under black walnut trees. If you have access to hardwood, I would highly recommend growing shiitake mushrooms in that space. Or another mushroom. I can talk you through shiitake mushroom cultivation, because I have grown a lot of shiitake. I have never grown other types of mushroom. Shiitake dries very easily, and it is a more nutritious mushroom.

A late reply... Online they sell tulle cheap by the bolt. (The stuff, usually white, for wedding veils). I think you can even order it by the bolt from Walmart. Get dark green or black and lay it over your garden. If you have hoops, (we made ours out of electrical conduit pipe), it is easier to secure. Otherwise, lay 2x4, rocks, etc. to hold it in place. The cheapest shade covering I found. It holds up for years.
