A hand full of us base police we're drug out on our day off to the base pistol range to fire thousands of rounds of ball 38. We were using S&W combat Masterpiece's fireing at 25 yards at an angled steel backstop. Not even a target. Just keep shooting. Told us the ammo had poss able defects. If it didn't fire wait 10 seconds and unload. If it didn't fire and you rotated the clynder, and realized it in time, throw the revolver down range and yell. We we're standing, just shooting off hand. I was reloading and happen to glance at the shooter on my left. He fired his last round and turned his head toward me. In that instant a thin red line, like a knife cut, appeared across the middle of his forehead. A ricochet. His bullet. He said the expression on my face scared him more than the thought of how close that round had been to his temple. Range Master said just keep shooting. Two days, all day, half a dozen guys and not one bad round. Not a trip to range I don't think about that incident. Ricochets happen.

One of my good buddies in LA is into SASS cowboy shooting. At a competition he was firing his Colt SAA with .45 Schofield loads when he grabbed his throat and blood oozed. It was somewhat dramatic but he was not seriously injured by the piece of lead that had come back to tag him. This at a stage where hundreds of shooters had fired, at an event where safety is emphasized and practiced by very conscientious participants.
