The Boy Scouts of America will accept openly gay youths starting on New Year’s Day, a historic change that has prompted the BSA to ponder a host of potential complications—ranging from policies on tentmates and showers to whether Scouts can march in gay pride parades.
Yet despite their be-prepared approach, BSA leaders are rooting for the change to be a non-event, comparable to another New Year’s Day in 2000 when widespread fears of digital-clock chaos to start the new millennium proved unfounded.
“My hope is there will be the same effect this Jan. 1 as the Y2K scare,” said Brad Haddock, a BSA national executive board member who chairs the policy implementation committee. “It’s business as usual, nothing happens and we move forward.”
Some churches are dropping their sponsorship of Scout units because of the new policy and some families are switching to a new conservative alternative called Trail Life USA. But massive defections haven’t materialized and most major sponsors, including the Roman Catholic and Mormon churches, are maintaining ties. …

The problem is that many Christians who are Democrats see welfare is using the state to perform charity, help the poor, help the sick, etc.
Then supporting the big government is seen as a Christian obligation, while lessening the demand on the church and on them personally except writing a tax check.
Aside from that statement I underlined being oxymoronic, the welfare state is not a part of Christianity at all. The Bible warns against establishing big government because it promotes slavery and disease instead of health and freedom (1 Samuel 8:10-18).

YAY. The overtaking of another American tradition by the gay agitators is complete.
And sorry BSA. It has had an affect. I don’t give them money, I don’t give them donations, I don’t volunteer for them, I don’t buy their popcorn, and I don’t loan them my camping gear anymore.
The scouts were suppose to teach them about being boys, having fun, and doing boy stuff. Now, i’m afraid, it’s going to be nothing more than a prograssive recruiting and indoctrination agency. The same as the girl scouts have become.
I agree with you. I was simply repeating the explanation I was given by more than one lib.
It’s frustrating to love someone and hear them say something so freaking stupid.
I think when it’s going to start to get really interesting is when you have gay Scouts with full sashes and Eagles coming up against the age limit and going “I want to be a Scouter”. They’re not going to tell those guys “no”, at least not very long or very hard. And that’s the ballgame.
And when will they get fabulous new uniforms?
