“Why are my chicken thighs...”

If you have chicken thighs, you have a real problem. Eat!

The chickens have unionized and demand more wages and benefits to donate their thighs. Blame the cows that encourage everyone to “eat mor chikn”.

Have you noticed all the scare stories about bacteria on chicken products? They are getting ready to regulate the hell out of the industry. By the time they get done expect to see $100 chickens.

I don’t know why it’s so expensive for you, Stater Bros. in SoCal has thighs or drumsticks @1.39 a pound. Must be that great store with a club card.

They send the chicken to China to be processed and then bring them back. The cost of well travelled poultry is included in the purchase price.

And why are chicken wings, the part with the least meat, almost $1 more per pound than thighs? Are they that popular?

Also, all of a sudden, all we can find are boneless skinless chicken breasts, no bone in and skin on. I like the bone in (grills and bakes better) and the skin is easy to remove (if you want it that way....).

I'm not certain of the cause. One way I save $ on meat is buying the discounted meat that is close to its sell date. I would not necessarily recommend this with chicken due to its short shelf lfe. I do buy discounted beef regularly. Beef has a longer shelf life. I get about 50% off.

Check the meat aisle in your store to see if there is a discount section.

It’s called inflation… all grocery prices have gone up drastically. The government refuses to acknowledge this

My parents often recall the days when, being poor, they lived on king crab and other foods cheap as nobody with money wanted to eat it. Then people with money changed their minds.

Supply and demand.

10 pounds of chicken is $6.95 at Walmart now, up from $5.90 last I checked.

The FDA ordered chicken distributors to purchase from Union-run exchanges out of Chicago.../s

Seriously...I noticed the same here in my state. No idea, other than feed inflation creep (biofuels).

I live in Southern California, and have also seen the steep price increase in chicken.

Foster Farms, the biggest chicken processor in the state, has had some problems with salmonella contamination. Even though there has not been an official recall, several retailers have removed Foster Farms chicken from their shelves. I am sure this is a factor in price increase

This is just wrong, there are twice as many chicken thighs as there are chicken breasts. If you know anything about economics and supply and demand, the more available thighs should cost half as much as the less available breasts. But they are all the same price per pound. This is obvious price-fixing and there should be congressional hearings. The price if chicken is probably more important to most voters today than Benghazi anyway.
