A Valencia County woman was killed by a pit bull on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the woman's home off Crawford Road in Jarales, just south of Belen.
According to the Valencia County Sheriff's Department, the woman's son came home and found his mother dead from the attack. He killed the dog immediately following the attack.

Never have a dog that can kill you ... :-) ...
Once in a while, justice happens.
This is indeed tragic
and not to minimize it
but I wonder if the pit Bulls she owned were rescue dogs that had been trained to fight?
I wish we know what triggered it

Wow. From those 3 paragraphs you were able to determine that the woman needed to be killed for the sake of justice?
Such clairvoyance.
She had killer dogs to kill someone else. One of her dogs killed her.
That's justice.
It doesn’t take much to trigger it for that type of dog. Maybe she tripped and fell down and the dog went for her.
An old black lady who lives next door to me has chicken-wire cages in her backyard where her grandson raises pit bulls, no doubt for dog fighting. He keeps some adult dogs chained there and takes the puppies away to sell once they are weaned. The dogs stink and make the next two backyards stink (including mine, which I can’t even use now). They also bark their heads off.
The little old lady - unsteady and half-blind - goes out there when they start barking (I believe she is also responsible for feeding them) and I know that if one of them were ever to slip its chain or get out, she’d be torn apart in seconds.
People have complained to animal control, but they don’t do anything because he keeps only the legal limit of dogs (4) on a permanent basis, and evidently running a breeding operation out of your backyard is not illegal. And of course, the neighbors are scared to keep complaining, because somehow their identity seems to get back to him when they make a complaint and they’re afraid of retribution if he is forced to get rid of the dogs.
I’m sure this goes on all over the country.
Maybe she was a crazy dog lady?
that limits quite a few dogs
especially for old folks
Trying to feel sorry for her, but just not having any success.
One old lady (about 65+) bought a weenie dog from us (a puppy) for about $250. I would say that was a perfect match ... :-) ...
that was a ridiculous post meads
and a bit cruel
We own two Chihuahuas....we live in fear of our lives. sarc/on
why do all you folks suspect she deserved it
and just who this side of dog torturers deserve to be mauled and killed by their dog?
do pitbull owners in general deserve to die?
lets just round them up and execute them?
why stop there...maybe Rottie and Dobe and GSD and Mastiff owners too eh?
very few folks aside from the most heinous butchers deserve to be killed by dogs
even pitbull owners
what is this cruel crap here you see so much of....young boys slapping bravado...pretending to be tuff
or just unhappy folks,,acting out their lonely FR keyboard bitterness here day after day
you see it beyond just Dog Kills Owner threads
this could be some old tortilla making grandma in rural New Mexico living on not a whole lot and had these dogs forever and one snapped
it happens....
but insteads folks get gleeful cause she had Pitbulls
thats sick to be honest
Kill them all...and their owners
and the owners kids...so they can’t grow up to own pitbulls either
I once knew a man who was so poor he owned five dogs.
I think I can explain the previous poster's logic
The dog killed her, so by definition the dog is a killer and dangerous. With me so far?
The dog is a pit bull, the breed most likely to fatally attack a human. This is a fact. If she were killed by a collie or something like that we could say that she didn't have any reason to be concerned, but she had a pit bull, so unless she were deaf and blind, she had to know that the breed was dangerous.
Rather than kill someone else as happens all too often, the dog killed the owner. So which would most people rather see happen: a known dangerous breed kills an innocent bystander, and the owner has few if any consequences as is often the case, or the killer dog kills the owner? I'm voting for owner
That dog bit the hand that fed him.
