Astronomy Picture of the Day -- Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka

Explanation: Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka, are the bright bluish stars from east to west (lower right to upper left) along the diagonal in this gorgeous cosmic vista. Otherwise known as the Belt of Orion, these three blue supergiant stars are hotter and much more massive than the Sun. They lie about 1,500 light-years away, born of Orion's well-studied interstellar clouds. In fact, clouds of gas and dust adrift in this region have intriguing and some surprisingly familiar shapes, including the dark Horsehead Nebula and Flame Nebula near Alnitak at the lower right. The famous Orion Nebula itself is off the right edge of this colorful star field. The well-framed, wide-field telescopic image spans about 4 degrees on the sky.

Off the beaten topic comment -- I don't know who codes the Windows interface (or literally ANY tablet interface), but they should be put in front of a firing squad. I don't need a bunch of stupid easter-egg coding, I need something that will work right and take me off somewhere I don't want to be. Hint: the computer isn't a freakin' psychic, I don't need it to guess what I *really* wanted to do.

Back on the beaten path -- this Big version of this one is kinda wow, LOTS of depth to the star field.

The celestial equator runs right through Alnilam.

The tablet hell is real - we were so frustrated with the interface that we returned ours. Infuriating me just to use the internet.
We set up our back-up mini hp on xp cuz it works no fuss.

Not long after my rant up there, a popup showed up because I’d tapped some key too long? Some combination of keys? I clicked cancel, and the [long stream of expletives] keyboard wouldn’t put anything on the screen, it would only make a weird clicking sound. Literally NO ONE would EVER WANT a computer to DO THAT. I could feed whomever approved that “feature” feetfirst into a live wood chipper. Figuratively of course.

And, BEST OF ALL, because the keyboard wouldn’t take a keystroke, I couldn’t get any of the alleged built-in Help, because it was impossible to search, and there is no clickable guide. GARBAGE!!!

That’s awful!

What has been plaguing me lately is my screen freezing up with the “Spinning Pinwheel of Death” due to “Unresponsive Script” on the Page.

It makes me want to throw the Mac down the smokestack, Jack.

It’s enough to make you pine for MS/Dos.
