Where Does Gravity Come From?
universetoday.com ^ | December 5, 2013 | Nancy Atkinson on

Posted on 12/05/2013 5:18:10 PM PST by BenLurkin

The problem is that our understanding of both particle physics and the geometry of gravity is incomplete.

“Having gone from basically philosophical understandings of why things fall to mathematical descriptions of how things accelerate down inclines from Galileo, to Kepler’s equations describing planetary motion to Newton’s formulation of the Laws of Physics, to Einstein’s formulations of relativity, we’ve been building and building a more comprehensive view of gravity. But we’re still not complete,” said Dr. Pamela Gay. “We know that there still needs to be some way to unite quantum mechanics and gravity and actually be able to write down equations that describe the centers of black holes and the earliest moments of the Universe. But we’re not there yet.”

Isn’t the biggest obstacle one of perception? Everybody tries to visualize the physical — when we simply can’t. Like Flat people trying to figure out 3d people.

A guy from Texas once told me that the reason why Texas hasn’t left the union is because of how much Oklahoma sucks.

But I’m not taking sides — don’t have a dog in that fight.

OK, so...

I just found this guy, this physicist, not the most dynamic speaker, but either way, he address’s this issue.

Anthony Rizzi, PhD

Anthony Rizzi is a physicist with degrees from MIT (B.S., phys.) and Princeton (PhD, phys.) with over 20 years combined experience in experimental and theoretical physics, including solving an 80 year old problem in Einstein’s theory. He also has made important contributions to the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) in Louisiana, has taught graduate courses at LSU, and has done research on manned and unmanned mars spacecrafts. As a staff physicist and design engineer at Lockheed-Martin, he received a NASA Award and a New Technology Award.

I am not a scientific genius by any stretch of the imagination. I do have an engineering degree.

There are many educated people who lack wisdom.

God sometimes reveals things to the humble and simple, and keeps those who say they can see from seeing.

Many "educated" people break their arms patting themselves on the back for understanding less than .0000000000000000001% of how God Himself created and runs His universe.

The answer to the author's questions is: Christ.

"And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."

Colossians 1:17

I guess what they’re saying is that the smallest particles of which mass is constituted are actually tiny packets of energy.

The reason they oscillate until measured is due to the energy packets vibrating in a mix of different wavelengths.

Or something like that.

No argument here.

And I'm looking forward to people learning the next .0000000000000000001% of God's creation,

“david Horowitz is my role model...another man of those times that woke up. ha.”

As hubby once said about him: he was a radical then, he’s a radical now, just on the other side.

As to gravity, isn’t gravity a law or something, I mean doesn’t it just exist? I don’t get the whole question here.

mass is energy. Everything is mass; therefore, everything is energy. Gravity bends energy. Gravity bends space; therefore, space is energy. gravity is; therefore, a distortion of the energy that exists between objects. that’s my basic understanding of gravity.

Modern science or scientism has a hold on our culture.

It has become the authority for virtually every aspect of our public policy, media and social structures they attempt to build.

It is an authority based on a subjective reality.

The first principles of logic and reason can not be deconstructed, using the same scientific methods they use to conclude everything is relative.

Nevertheless, we are told, and society holds science up as the authority.

Sadly, more and more people fall in line.

I love science.

I think more people should ask “how do we know, what we know?”

Where does knowledge come from ?

Authority ?

Does objective morality exist ?

Where does that come from ?

IMHO, you can’t do science without God.

“For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountain of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.”

Girls require time and money.

Girls = Time × Money

Time is money.

Time = Money

Therefore:

Girls = Money × Money = (Money)2

Money is the root of all evil

Money = √Evil

Therefore:

Girls = (√Evil)2

And we are forced to conclude that:

Girls = Evil

As to gravity, isn’t gravity a law or something, I mean doesn’t it just exist? I don’t get the whole question here.

Newton postulated Universal Gravitation as a force acting between bodies. The why and how of it was left unsaid, and Newton remarked, "And to us it is enough that gravity does really exist ..."

However, "it really exists" only as a necessary postulate in "flat space-time", which Newton implicity assumed by his Three Laws of Motion.

Einstein realized that gravity does not act as a force, and orbital motion, e.g. , is explained in the same way as Newton's straight line motion : As the natural motion in the ABSENCE of forces. This is the basis of Einstein's, Principle of Equivalence, which says that gravity is a "fictitious force", just as centrifugal force.

Well, then comes QM, and the decision that gravity "must" be quantized. I can understand the gist of the idea, but I have to recall that Quantum Field Theory functioned very happily in the context of Special Relativity, where Dirac, e.g., inferred the existence of Antimatter, and all the other advances of particle physics took place, and necessarily so since gravity is undetectable at the quantum level.

So I more or less stopped worrying my old gray head about it.
