And the Twins are moving Mauer to 1B due to his concussions.
for cano? the dodgers are out. they are chasing around tanaka right now.
The Yankees need Tanaka and will outbid the Dodgers on the posting fee. The Dodgers could use another lefty bat and have massive money to spend, especially if they deal Matt Kemp. (Boston is one club known to have inquired about Kemp.) The Dodgers will definitely deal one of their OF — they have 4 starters for 3 slots: Kemp, Crawford, Puig, and Ethier.
Again the Yankees over pay for a free agent
hehe
Fourteen HRs per 162 game season, drops to 11 HRs per season based on how often he actually plays.
McCann’s contract doesn’t come close to Buster Posey’s either. Count on an MSM outlet like the Urinal-Constipation to get the most basic facts wrong.
I don’t know if you have noticed this or not, but no one is outbidding the dodgers these days.
“I think they let Canoe walk...”
For a three hundred mil asking price? I think every team in the majors will let him walk.
Fearless long-term prediction: this whole Jay-Z sports agent thing will turn out to be a disaster for lots of players..
The Yankees most likely will on this one. They are capable, they need him badly, and posting fees don’t count towards the luxury tax. They’re likely to make a blowaway posting bid.
I’m not sure this one is overpaying.
The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo thends to agree with you. He says nothing besides Alex Rodriguez’s legal problems has been handled worse than Robinson Cano’s free agency.
A writer for ESPN lays out a plan for the Yankees to compete without Cano. It’s interesting. What do you think?
The Yankees have said they have their limits with Cano, and there aren’t many teams that can afford to sign him. The Yankees do have a payroll ceiling and they’re trying to stay under it.
A plurality of the writers at this blog seem to think Tanaka will sign with the Yankees.

I think this jay-z sports agency thing is going to screw up a couple of dozen perfectly good careers before it collapses. I think cano re-signs with ny, just not for 10 years or the sort of money he’s talking about. But middle infielders that can ops over 900 don’t come along every day. Ultimately, ny and cano will come to terms.
the dodgers have been coming in at the end of the process and just blowing everyone away. That’s what they did with ryu last year. and the “smart guys” at espn said that LA was out of the picture for greinke right up to the point that they signed him. I think they actually need tanaka more than ny. Billingsley had tj last year, and is a big question mark. And Beckett had his first rib removed (!) because of numbness in his pitching hand, and he hasn’t been all that great when he wasn’t broken.
Thanks for the link..interesting article..
I thought the new posting rules allowed for the player to be able to choose among the 3 teams with the highest bids..if Seattle’s one of those..he goes there..
LA just signed dan haren to a 1 year contract. maybe that’s an experiment, maybe it’s an insurance policy.
I’m not sure what this means — if anything — in the tanaka bidding war.
They’re probably protecting themselves, since the posting agreement between MLB and NPB expired and the new one is currently snagged in negotiations. Until that’s done, Tanaka can’t be posted. So teams like the Yankees and the Dodgers have to go find other pitchers.
The snag in the posting agreement is generally considered to be the reason the market for pitchers is slow — everyone is waiting for Tanaka. Maybe the Dodgers’ signing of Haren is the first crack.
There remains a substantial gap between Cano’s request of 10 years, $310 million and the Yankees’ offer of 7 years, $168 million. (Even 7 years is a bit risky for a 31-year-old player, IMO.) Apparently, they met and not much progress wsa made.
The Yankees signed McCann. They’re considered a frontrunner for Beltran. They’re going to get pitching (Tanaka and/or someone else.) (They’ve been linked to Ervin Santana.) At some point, they’re out of money, given their stated aim of geting under the $189 million payroll tax threshold. The money to meet Cano’s request may not be there if he hangs out too long.
