Trouble with Downloads from Youtube via Mozilla Firefox

Posted on 11/20/2013 6:41:58 PM PST by ducttape45

I have been experiencing a most perplexing problem with Mozilla Firefox lately and I'm hoping that maybe someone here will have the answer I'm looking for.

I have an addon/extension called "Download Youtube Videos as MP4s." Basically, it allows me to download Youtube videos in either an FLV or MP4 format. This comes in quite handy for saving data/information regarding political matters.

Lately, however, something, somewhere, somehow, has been messing that up. If I click on the download button, instead of getting a "Save As" context menu, the webpage goes blank, a very long URL is displayed in the address bar, and that's it. Nothing downloads. I've even tried different downloaders and none of them worked. The only way I've been able to get around this is create a new profile and transfer all of my data. This method resets everything and I can continue on.

However, this has happened to me TWICE now, and it is most upsetting. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one but I haven't found anything on the Internet that addresses this problem because I don't know how to term the problem so that a search engine picks it up.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks.

Legitimate advice please. I’m not gonna open my computer up to Google so they can ransack my data for the criminal in the WH.

Chrome.

Mozilla has become bloatware and opens its legs for any addon that comes into the room...

THAT is legitimate advice. Chrome is da shizznit.

BTW no matter what browser you're using, you're not safe from Fedzilla.

I've run every scan imaginable on this thing, even Microsoft Malicious Software removal. Nothing can be found. I haven't tried installing another antivirus cause I don't want to it to conflict with what I got (AVG).

However, I'm nearing the end of my rope with this thing about I'm ready to try something new.

If that extension/add-on is the one that is messing up your Firefox profile, you need to uninstall it. It may not be compatible with the version of FF you are using.

Then, you might try a different downloader. There are many out there — some as add-ons and some as standalones.

Sorry, but I don’t buy it. The URL it’s trying to steer me towards is a Google URL. Firefox may not be the best web browser out there anymore but Google is by far the most unsafe in the area of guarding personal data.

I’ve tried different downloaders, and none of them worked. It wasn’t until I created a new profile that the problem disappeared, for all of about 3-4 days, then it came back.

Yes, last time this happened I installed that version with no effect. I still couldn’t download anything and I was being directed to a Google URL.

I check my Add-ons with Fire fox and my computer seems fine. I stay away from Chrome.

and give me an example (at apecific url) of a YouTube video you have tried to download, I will try it in my Firefox on my PC and let you know if I get the same error.

You're not giving Google personal data when you're using Chrome.

Fine, browse using IE10 then, it's also better than Firefox. Or buy a Mac.

That’s sometimes happened to me too when using that same downloader. What usually works to get around that error is to RIGHT-click on the menu item that says “mp4 360p” and then do a “save link as” and save that file. Almost always works for me. Good luck!
