'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' Trailer: Five Most Nail-Biting Moments
MTV ^

Posted on 10/08/2013 3:49:33 PM PDT by Perdogg

Early this week, the passing of best-selling author Tom Clancy gave everyone an opportunity to reflect on the thrilling works and characters he created. Two days later, we're presented with the first trailer for the newest movie starring his best-known hero, CIA analyst Jack Ryan.

"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," while not based directly on any Clancy books, tells the story of a younger Ryan and the international conspiracy that brings him into the field for the first time. We've watched the trailer a few times now, and there are a few moments worth revisiting for their pure Clancy-ness.

Too bad the movie isn't based on any of the Jack Ryan novels that Tom Clancy actually wrote.

I see Chris Pine is playing Jack Ryan. Getting to play Jack Ryan and Captain Kirk? That’s got to be pretty awesome for an actor so young.

But, the Hunt for the Red October was what brought Ryan into the field for the first time. Before that, he was an analyst. Can’t Hollywood resist screwing up everything it touches?

What’s next, the Adventures of Teen Jack Ryan?

This is the trend in movies because it has worked so well and brings in the money. Hollywood is doing what the audience wants it to do.

You're right of course but I won't miss THIS one when it gets to the theaters. TWO boxes of heavily buttered, heavily salted popcorn, a GIANT drink, red licorice and MAYBE some malt balls, if you please. Yummers! :o)

Chris Pine has the face, the voice and the presence. There is no rhyme nor reason why we like some faces more than others. It hasn't too much to do with handsome or pretty. It's the Je ne sais quoi effect.

A movie with a Clancy-created character not based on a Clancy novel? Can they do that? I was under the impression that after The Sum of All Fears fiasco that Clancy said, "No more" to Hollywood (for screwing up his novel in a way he did not appreciate).

How about some (more) movies with John Clark? I like Willem Dafoe, but I'd like someone a bit more "believable" as Clark, who's supposed to be a big, imposing dude.

I think I read a quote that was something to the effect of “They paid for the right to make the movie. The movie is all theirs. I don’t make movies.”

Thanks Perdogg. Watched the trailer, Chris Pine is sooo young looking. Maybe it’s that ol’ “policemen look like schoolboys anymore” thing, lol.
