Don’t forget the first such objects discovered on our own moon in 1966: the “Blair Cuspids” — see http://www.vgl.org/webfiles/lan/cuspids/cuspids.htm

And “Jesus” on a piece of toast.

As if people know what Jesus looked like.

Scientists have been able to decipher messages conveyed from one group of black monoliths to several others and have sought the assistance of the NSA, who have been involved in intercepting their communiques.

The NSA have been able to acknowledge a form of communication to be a dialect of extra terrestrial Ebonics-based language and now finally realize how the lack of minorities in the space program with their special language skills have caused serious damage for the future of inter-galactic peace and harmony of which Obama might very well have been the biggest loser of in not having expanded the space budget to allow for astronauts of color and the inevitable loss of Mars' greatest symbol of love and brotherhood, The Fudge-Pack, Six Pack Falluss of Friendship

Here is some info from a more reliable source:

http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/profile.cfm?Object=Mar_Phobos

Phobos and Deimos appear to be composed of C-type rock, similar to blackish carbonaceous chondrite asteroids. Observations by Mars Global Surveyor indicate that the surface of this small body has been pounded into powder by eons of meteoroid impacts, some of which started landslides that left dark trails marking the steep slopes of giant craters.

http://www.space.com/20346-phobos-moon.html

The examination of Phobos and its companion revealed more than their odd, nonspherical shapes. The two moons are dark gray in color, and heavily cratered. The moons are some of the darkest, least reflective objects in the solar system.

After observing the pair, scientists concluded that they were made of material similar to Type I or II carbonaceous chondrites, the material that makes up asteroids and dwarf planets. The composition and odd shape led some scientists to conclude that Phobos and Deimos came from the asteroid belt, with Jupiter's gravity long ago nudging them into orbit around Mars.

When extraterrestrial life reveals itself to us, it will probably have parallels to when the Spanish discovered the new world. That didn’t turn out so well for the native population.

1960: Artificial Phobos hypothesis

In a 1960 Astronautics newsletter, Singer commented on Iosif Shklovsky's hypothesis that the orbit of the Martian moon Phobos suggests that it is hollow, which implies it is of artificial origin. Singer wrote: "My conclusion there is, and here I back Shklovsky, that if the satellite is indeed spiraling inward as deduced from astronomical observation, then there is little alternative to the hypothesis that it is hollow and therefore martian made. The big "if" lies in the astronomical observations; they may well be in error. Since they are based on several independent sets of measurements taken decades apart by different observers with different instruments, systematic errors may have influenced them." Later measurements confirmed Singer's big "if" caveat: Shklovsky overestimated Phobos' rate of altitude loss due to bad early data. Photographs by probes beginning 1972 show a natural stony surface with craters. Ufologists continue to present Singer as an unconditional supporter of Shklovsky's artificial Phobos hypothesis.

BTW – I could be wrong or thinking of some other crackpot conspiracy site but I thought at one point posting links to Above Top Secret was verboten around here.

Yeah, but NASA won’t let Sheila Jackson Lee see the photos ‘cause they’re racist.

I think they, whomever they are, have been here for eons but an official announcement from our "rulers" is not so forthcoming. Indeed, the population might very well freak out at the prospect of our own mortality because we have a species wide spiritual malady. JMHO

Buzz Aldrin went to Mars. Interesting. Sheila Jackson Lee thinks so.

‘When people find out about that they are going to say, “Who put that there? Who put that there?” Well the universe put it there, or if you choose God put it there.’ — Buzz Aldrin

In the 1960s one of those cool men’s fringe mags (either “Argosy” or “True”) had a frame from the first “dark side” photos taken by the USSR, showing some unremarkable boulders and claiming that one of them was a tall obelisk and three others (in what was described as a straight line) were shorter obelisks.

And I found this while looking for that:

I don't have any recipes for monoliths. Really. Even in my secret recipe notebook.

More or less hollow. It’s orbit doesn’t work for a solid body the same size.
