There have been many ugly tweets and other nasty comments about the new Miss America, Syracuse, NY born and aspiring cardiologist Nina Davuluri. The former Miss New York is of Indian descent; many of the negative commenters thought she was Arab and/or Muslim. Not so incidentally there were also many positive tweets and comments.
Paradoxically, according to Malika Rao writing in The Huffington Post, Davuluri would never have won a similar pageant in her parents' native India because she was too...dark. Yes, even in India, skin color is important--the lighter the better.
But there was an unfortunate irony to the win, noted mostly by Indian and Indian-American writers. Davuluri is dark-skinned. In India, where skin color is a national obsession, you likely wouldn't see someone of her complexion in a pageant, much less winning one.

Writing at FirstPost, Lakshmi Chaudhury quipped that Indians prefer their beauty queens "vanilla, preferably accessorised with blue contact lenses."
And to get that vanilla shade, beauty contestants in India, and apparently other women, take some drastic steps. In a previous Miss India contest Every contestant was "taking some sort of medication to alter her skin, particularly in colour" according to the embedded writer, Susan Runkle. Indeed, the winner that year, Sonali Nagrani, looks more European than Indian.

Exactly so. Plus whites are not allowed to enter Miss Black America, are not allowed to have a Miss White America pageant, and increasingly, are not allowed to win Miss America. So yeah, people are a little annoyed, and it's understandable.

Homos are trying to get transgendered contestants in these competitions.

The “counterculture” is the establishment now and it seeks “payback”.

Our lesbian mayor instituted a “rape tax” on strip clubs (because the Democrat run city has long been negligent in actually TESTING rape kits to prosecute criminals). Strip joints also are prohibited from showing bare nipples now (I don’t know if there is also a prohibition on thongs, I don’t keep up with the current regulations and don’t visit them). But gay pride parade is a major clusterf&&& on our streets with city support.

Nonsense. Nothing was "taken from them." Also, "increasingly are not allowed to win Miss America"???? As far as I can tell, ten of the last fifteen Miss Americas have been white (and at least one of two otherws were half-white).
One of our biggest problems is that due to Leftist orthodoxy, we have largely quit teaching students and immigrants what being American is truly all about. And I agree completely with you.

I was surprised to read this about the Indian culture, just as I was surprised to find out the same holds true for American black culture.
I had no idea they judge each other by the color of their skin - what a shame there is such racism within different races.

Personally, I don't think she's that attractive (I know, meow). The other thing is her talent. It's just like with AI or AGT. When people vote, they almost always choose someone with a talent that's part of our culture. I don't watch Miss America, I got fed up with it many years ago. But they've just given me another reason to be fed up. The winner, in fact all the contestants, should culturally represent the US....not Bollywood. JMHO

Fact: EVERY ethnic group is color conscious when it comes to skin tone. Whites, blacks, Asians, Arabs, Indians, you name it.

Similar nasty things were being said back in the 1940’s when my father’s Irish neighborhood was being overrun by “garlic-eating immigrants” from Italy. Always sucks to be the last ones in.
I suppose it depends on your outlook. Does the Constitution, Liberty, Levi’s, Gone With the Wind, the Blues/Country & Rock n Roll = White to you?
Does it matter?
Multiculturalism = the death of the host culture. Ask an American, a Gaul, a Celt, etc...
False acts of “tolerance” won’t save of from an ignorance of history.
