Is there a Horrocks down near you? I know there are a few mid-MI locations but I can never remember where. Since they’re a local, family owned store you’d think that they’d sell a lot of locally grown foods but a huge amount of what they sell comes from Amish farms down in Ohio. Buckeyes, for crying out loud.

Yep they are still family owned. We are in Lowell and got our own Meijers about 6 or 7 years ago. Lena Meijer is still alive, Fred died a few years ago. They were big time philanthropists in GR too. I haven’t been up on Alpine in awhile. Have been in this area since the mid 70’s. You would probably not recocnize Alpine Avenue now. It’s been built up like crazy.

There’s a Meijer store on either end of town in Jackson. Its nice that I can go to the one on this end of town without going IN town.

I was home in July for my mom's memorial and to take care of her estate. Stopped at the east side Meijer's in Jackson (the one just off of I-94 on the way back to Virginia. That is a nice one.

The Meijer in Big Rapids is a bit older and the one in Cadillac is newer and nicer, plus I like going to Cadillac better than Big Rapids.

My parents used to go to their store on Alpine Avenue just south of the junction of M-37 and I-96 about twice a month.

I used to stop there quite a bit when I was younger. My parents would take me Christmas shopping at Woodland Mall and we would also hit other stores including that Meijer.

Wish we had them here. Went to one with the bro in law while in Mich. and was impressed.

Me too. /AOL

Actually went there while visiting friends. If you can get there you HAVE to visit Meijer Gardens — it is a beautiful place.

When I moved to Charlevoix, in 1976, it was routine for the guys to have their Deer Hunting Rifles with them in their pickups.
