French magazine Paris Match - video of Syrian rebels beheading a civilian

I was looking for the news article where Rand Paul was talking about the atrocities being committed in Syria, the beheading of priests, children, etc, and stumbled upon this on Google - Twitchy posted this about Parish Match about one and a half hours ago.

I won't provide a link to it, but thought people needed to know

And now weapons are being provided by the CIA to Syrian rebels (WaPo article)?

Apparently, the beheading of civilians is intensifying. Sick.

We’re on the wrong side just as that bafoon Slick Willy was in Kosovo. The dems are always in the wrong. Why half the voters don’t see it is beyond my comprehension of reality.

Recently it has been reported that Christian children were kidnapped by muslim rebels outside of Damascus. When the pictures were made available of the gassing atrocity the parents of those kidnapped Christian children recognized their children in the pile of dead gassed people.

Where is the outrage?

I’d like to point out that video of unknown provenance can be easily staged. For all we know the perps in this video are Assad’s guys, and the victim might be a captured insurgent. It ain’t all that difficult to take off your uniform and put on some old ratty clothes.

Presumably somebody cut somebody else’s head off, but we don’t really know who.

I think we sometimes allow the strength of our emotional response to a situation to overflow into an assumption that the story being told is true.

For instance, when a particularly horrific crime is committed, people automatically react with anger at the person arrested. But it is often forgotten that the person arrested may not be the person who did it. Our outrage is not evidence of guilt, in itself. But that’s the way our minds tend to naturally work.

Well, mine will show up when proof of this story is posted, not just allegations or claims.

Doesn't anybody remember the stories of mass gang rape and murder in the Superbowl after Katrina? Never happened.

What you are alleging might be true, were it not for multiple newspapers, both in the U.S., Britain and other European countries reporting on past instances of beheadings, with onlookers saying that it was Syrian rebels who commited the crimes.

Or are they in on it, too, part of the staging?

Believing that is akin to Trutherism.

Nonsense. I was not commenting on whether rebels behead people, including presumably innocent civilians.

I was commenting on whether this particular video is representative of the actual truth of what happened. And the truth is that a random video withpit provenance is proof of exactly nothing, except that a killing occurred.

Unless you are claiming that Assad and various other groups floating around the MI are much too high-minded to commit video murder in furtherance of whatever their cause is.

In video and images, context is everything.

IOW, for the video in question:
We don’t know when it was shot.
We don’t know where it was shot.
We don’t know who the killers are.
We don’t know who the victim is.
We don’t know the (real) reason(s) behind the killing.
