USA-Costa Rica rivalry reaches new heights after “SnowClasico” backlash [10pm ET]
NBC Sports ^ | September 6, 2013 | Joe Prince-Wright

Ever since the US national team touched down in Costa Rica, locals, soccer fans, players, officials, mascots and even taxi drivers have been conspiring against Jurgen Klinsmann’s side.

Following the USA’s controversial 1-0 World Cup qualifying win in snowy Denver in March, the Ticos have been incredibly angry with US Soccer about the game being able to go ahead. Despite poor playing conditions and Costa Rica wanting the game to be abandoned, the CONCACAF official waved play on and Clint Dempsey‘s lone goal stood up as the US secured a crucial win.

(MORE: Who will start for US national team vs. Costa Rica?)

However, it seems as though Costa Rica is bearing a grudge against the US. Big time.  Just take a look below at these various reports from multiple US outlets down in Central America.

On arrival the USMNT were made to walk through the airport and a group of angry Costa Rica fans who hurled eggs at the team bus. They Nats were also rejected a practice field by three different facilities and were forced to find one on their own… at a dairy farm out in the sticks.

Plus there were no balls provided for the team practices and plenty other unpleasant acts have been going on since the US arrived.

Safe to say the crowd will be incredibly anti-American at the Estadio Nacional on Friday… but then again, what did you expect as Klinsmann’s all conquering Yanks roll into town? A nice warm handshake and a cordial ‘all the best, guys’ as the Hexagonal leaders aim to grab a win that could seal qualification…

Back to reality, the evidence is stacking up, as Costa Rican taxi drivers are apparently planning to blockade the USMNT’s route to the stadium in act of retaliation against the “SnowClasico” result back in March.

Several US journalist down in Central America are tweeting and keeping US soccer fans up to date as the rivalry between the two nations reaches fever pitch. Enjoy the game tonight from 10pm ET on BeIN Sport.

Here’s all of the video evidence so far…

Jurgen Klinsmann stays calm despite having a dancing cow behind him, with an air horn….

Omar Gonzalez gets the same treatment …

Keith Olbermann breaks everything down so far…

And finally, KICK TV shows you a behind the scenes look at what the US are up against in Costa Rica…

And to think the NFL held-up the season opener for 45 minutes due to a rainstorm.

Will John McCain add Costa Rica to the list of countries he wants to bomb?

“Keith Olbermann breaks everything down so far…”

Hmmn, I use to see KO years ago doing sports before we knew his political stances but now, I can’t watch him even though he wasn’t bad as a sports analyst. Pity. Can’t they get some former US player up there??

I liked it when there was fox soccer which has sort of gone by the wayside it sounds like.

Obambi the Terrible could probably build a better case on launching a few cruise missiles towards Costa Rica than he can towards Syria...

So the game was played in a blizzard,
both teams had the same disadvantages.

This is my recollection of that 1st game they talk of that the USA won.

In Denver, it was first delayed one time because of the snow, they came back to play it the next day and gave it a go.

The Costa Ricans wanted to play it as well, I think it is an exaggeration to categorically say the Ticos, Costa Ricans wanted it postponed, they may have after the game was over and they lost but not during. Because if it had been delayed that 2nd time, it might have been much more inconvenient to schedule it again.

As it is, they only lost by 1 goal and the way things are, have a good shot to go to the World Cup still. There have been a number of times, USA, Mexico and Costa Rica have all gone, the thing is now, Honduras and Panama are better.

Looks like the game begins at 10 PM EST.

yep,
Cept this game starts in 50 minutes and it still is hot as hell with about 300 percent humidity there.
I wonder if the throw batteries at opposing players like Phillie fans do?

Costa Rica scores in first 5 minutes.

We are at the top of the group, of course, we don’t want to lose but I don’t think it will be the end of the world.

The first 3 teams advance automatically to the world cup, the 4th place team will be in a playoff with a country/team from another region, probably South America.

Can anyone recommend a website that’s livestreaming this game? I’m too poor to pay Comcast the extra dough.

Sorry, I have no idea of a stream. Also, I’ve heard it’s against some forums rules to suggest a stream but using a legal source, I don’t see it at http://www.livesport.tv/

I’m not watching the game, but perhaps it is at beIN Sport that seems to be showing it on cable and satellite.

On ESPNHD which I do get, Honduras came back from being down 1-0 to now leading 2-1 at the Estadio Azteca, a huge 100,000+ capacity stadium, if scores hold up with USA down a goal to Costa Rica and Honduras should get the very rare win in the Azteca, not sure we have ever won a game there, Mexico will be in the 4th place playoff spot, in fact, I think if Mexico loses, they are in 4th while Honduras, USA and Costa Rica would all get the automatic berth in the WC.

Still, let’s not forget, there are 3 more games after tonight, maybe we play again early next week, Tuesday, yes, we do vs. Mexico on Sept. 10 in the USA.

Double check the data for yourself...anyone who may see this.

I am following the play-by-play on the Big Soccer website, someone posted a link to watch on-line, if you dare, hope it works, they said to watch “full screen” to eliminate the pop-ups, score as of a few minutes ago - CR2 - US1
