Tebow turns down non-QB job
Yahoo Sports - Tebow Himself ^ | Eric Edholm

Tim Tebow is an NFL free agent quarterback. Emphasis on the last word.

According to TheMMQB's Peter King, speaking Thursday night on the NBC broadcast, Tebow received an "inquiry" about joining an NFL team at a position other than quarterback. King reports that Tebow declined the request. He also has said no to Canadian football and US Rugby.

Please note that I said “interested”. Will the other 3 or so QBs in Washington be able to run the offense installed to fit RG-III’s style? I’m thinking Tebow can be interchageable for RG-III.

Again, ‘Skins might be “interested”.

A smart (politically) NFL team will let Tebow languish and then pick him up when they need him - another Jeff George scenario (not to say that Tebow is equal to George).

With George, it was his ego that turned off the PC owners club. With Tebow it is his unabashed reverence and honoring of God that torques the owners; they don’t want the “XPian albatross” hung on them.

At some point, tho, they want to make money which translates to “butts in the bleachers”.

Sorry, I don’t agree. If the man could complete a pass, they’d build a chapel for him on the 50 yard line if they had to.

The average NFL career is what 3 years? He’s a sharp individual with a good future. Apparently he doesn’t want to play another position and he knows the implications of that decision. I’d say thats his choice and leave out the insults.

I think he should go coach at the high school level. A Christian type would suit his quals

Tebow interchangeable with RGIII is like saying Helen Thomas is interchangeable with Catherine Zeta Jones.

I do not think he said no to the CFL. Montreal has his rights and have never tried to sign him. They already have a Heisman washout in Troy Smith as their 3rd string QB.

“Tim, I love ya, I do. But you’re not that good.”

Guess that’s why he took Denver to the playoffs in his first season. And took ‘em further than Manning did last year.

The thing with the CFL is, with that wide open style and bigger field, he’d have to throw even MORE than he would in the NFL. He’d be able to run more too though. I still don’t see it.

"I’d say thats his choice and leave out the insults."

I was not insulting him. "Beggars can't be choosers" is an old expression, not a literal statement of what a person is. In ordinary usage it means, "Someone who is at a disadvantage must take what he can get rather than insisting on what he wants." I think that is a statement of fact, not an insult.

If you really think that was because of Tebow, you need to study football. It was more in SPITE of Tebow.

How many 3 and Outs did they have in that playoff win? But hey, you must be right. I mean, John Elway didn’t want him. He must not know much about being a QB. 32 NFL GM’s don’t want him. And Manning...hmmm, a Super Bowl winning QB. I guess he got lucky.

Stop embarassing yourself.

‘Skins have 3 other quarterbacks all better than Tebow. Four altogether. Pat White is being groomed to be mini RG3 should it become necessary.

George didn’t turn off owners with his ego. He turned off coaches by constantly not running the plays they called and replacing them with long bombs that fell incomplete. There’s plenty of guys in the NFL giving at least as much reverence to God as Tebow, they’re in the NFL because they ALSO do their job, which Tebow does not.

"With Tebow it is his unabashed reverence and honoring of God that torques the owners;"

A few players and some fans don't like him for his religion, but Tebow is not the only player who is a Christian and willing to say so, and owners will not reject a player for his religious beliefs. After last week's pre-season game between Oakland and Seattle, a group of players from both teams - including Seattle QB Russell Wilson - knelt down on the field and said a brief prayer.

He didn’t take them further than Manning. Both lost in the divisional round. The difference is that Tebow limped them into the playoffs on a 3 game losing streak so they had to play in the wild card round, while Manning flew into the playoffs on an 11 game win streak so they got the bye. So Tebow’s win was in a game Manning didn’t have to play.

Why “must” he? Is he desperate to play in the NFL? Your statements indicate he is.

His statements indicate otherwise.

In spite of him, not because of him. Or maybe you did not watch that playoff game against NE?

I don't care whether he plays in the NFL or not, or whether he is at this time willing to forget about playing in the NFL; I'm saying IF he wants to play in the NFL, he will have to accept whatever situation he is offered, which may not be what he wants. OF COURSE he has a right to refuse an offer that doesn't appeal to him and to pursue other interests outside of the NFL. Tebow is an adult, not a 5 year-old, and I don't think he needs people protecting and defending him as they would a 5 year-old.
