Banks still might have a future in Atlanta, media sources report
The Atlanta Falcons have waived Brian Banks, a Los Angeles linebacker who was imprisoned for five years after being convicted of a rape that never happened.
Banks, 28, spent five years in prison and five years on probation following his conviction of rape and kidnapping charges a decade ago. The woman who made the charge when Banks was a 16-year-old football standout later recanted her accusation.
The conviction was overturned by a California court last year.

I hope the female loser is proud of her self.
False rape accusations should be treated as serious as rapes. Both destroy lives.
As far as I know, she has never been charged for her actions.
She should spend 5 years in prison and 5 years on probation.
As much as I dislike Mike Tyson I believe he too was charged with a rape he did not commit . Any woman stupid enough to go to Tysons apartment has to expect to have sex.
of course the woman won’t do any jail time. ought to haveto do at least the same amount of time the INNOCENT guy did.
i’d love to know how a guy gets his reputation back to what it was before a false rape conviction. for all those that think it ain’t no big deal.
Venturer: “She should spend 5 years in prison and 5 years on probation.”
I don’t know. As much as I’d love to see her punished—severely—I’m not sure it’s worth discouraging others from coming forward and admitting they falsely accused someone. That’s a tough call. I do think he should be able to sue her, but I’d be willing to bet she has very little worth taking.
Wait a minute....she sent a guy to prison for five years and there is no repercussions...
I understand she was 16 year old...
A raped woman can at least get sympathy from society and her reputation is intact. A falsely accused man however has his reputation and life destroyed and is demonized and shunned by society. Even if the false charge is recanted later (and most of them are not), the damage has been done.
She's an unwed mother of two living on welfare because she and her mother blew through the millions of dollars they won by suing the school for allowing a "rape" to occur on school grounds. She didn't volunteer that she falsely accused him because she didn't want to have to pay the money back. She was trapped on a hidden camera.
He confessed in 2003 and made plea deal for Six Years. Which means he should have gotten out four years ago, in 2009. But he just got out now, in 2013, after ten years??? WT...? And what happened to DNA? It was pretty reliable in 2003[/s].So excuse me if I don't cry for him. There's more to this than is being reported. It just doesn't add up.Annnd, why did he confess to RAPE? C'mon, if you didn't do it, you do not confess, nobody's that dumb. So he must have done something with her that he thought legally was, 'Rape'. Plus he must NOT have been a very good inmate if he got four more years added to his sentence. Like say, a typical thug.
Not to mention he still has to register a sex offender and his ankle bracelet is still on him.
Trapped on a hidden camera? Throw the book at her!!!
You should study our plea bargaining system. Essentially, you admit guilt in order to get a much lighter sentence. I’m not saying I’d confess to a crime I didn’t commit, but the stakes can be very, very high. Plus the accused has to weigh their odds of acquittal given our messed up “justice” system. Going before any jury is a crap shoot, no matter how innocent you are.
The story makes the young woman out to be almost a hero. She “recanted” her accusation. They don’t mention what you wrote, that she was caught. She should do twice whatever he served.
that is why these "recantations" to me are a little suspicious....
what proof was there for the school district to pay out that much money without so much as blinking their eyes..
otoh, truly false reporting should be dealt with accordingly.
She should serve 20 years in solitary.
Abstinence before marriage wins again.
