RUSH: Giving up citizenship -which nation is the New America?
Heritage Foundation ^ | 2013 | NA

Posted on 08/12/2013 10:42:33 AM PDT by Deathtomarxists

Just listening to Rush

He is discussing the increase in people giving up US citizenship. I have thought about this as have many in my family. But where to go? Is it really an option politically and financially? Which culture would be the best fit for an ex-American citizen? What kind of legal hassles would result? Please be specific as to why you feel the country you state is the "best" country to immigrate to; political/social atmosphere, wage, social mobility, entrepreneurial opportunities, etc.

New Zealand has strict gun law and it is almost impossible for a non-native to own land.

New Zealand is a myth.

/humble opinion

oh, I did have a friend who moved to Canada. he says if you stay away from the cities there is a lot of freedom. Taxes aren’t too bad and you can still get the feel of American culture - at least the good part. But I’d be afraid dumboma will get the US nuked and the fallout to Canada might be a problem. Wouldn’t be surprised if Russia, china or some other country nuked that NSA new facility in Idaho.

Do pirates get social security?

I think if social security is a significant part of your income, you have no need to give up your citizenship.

I went to Alberta a few years ago....loved it, would live there in a heartbeat. It’s like Texas with mountains and snow.

“...Or will we run and hide in some sh*thole foreign land ...”

Not an option, brother.

Like Daniel Webster said: I was born American, I’ll live as an American, and I’ll die as an American.

Western friendly, English spoken in nearly every province, kind, warm hearted people, amazing beaches, the American dollar goes a long way.

Amewrica is the greatest country in the world...

If it no longer is then there are none at all good enough..

I was at a Braves game this weekend in Atlanta-—Turner Field..

I was amongst 40,000 plus other Americans doing American things..

Americana at its finest...

I was awed, privileged, thankful, inspired, grateful, in tears to be numbered with all the people standing respectfully for our National Anthem and singing along with the choir from Marietta, GA, happily doing the Chop the House, and the Wave, and yelling “Charge!!!”

The happiness and family fun was contageous..

It was Kids Day and the stadium was packed with kids of all ages..

How more American can you get than a baseball game ???

Even one where the Braves got shut out by the Marlins, 0-1 top of the 9th ??? LOL

Just to be there was to belong to an American tradition that Barry has not yet destroyed...

and wont

and cant...

It is the spirit and heart of America with faith in God that has sustained us and our Constitution..

As my pastor said yesterday...

Obama is not in control, the Congress is not in control..

God is in control...

and God has kissed America with His Grace and His Love ...

and He likes baseball..

otherwise He would have let ol Mom pants Barry look good when he threw out that 1st pitch..

:)

Government and those in it, are the cause of nearly every single problem facing America today....

Government at all levels, then turns around and showers it’s employees with lottery style, economy killing, retirement pensions...

We are at a point where fixing government by traditional means is no longer an option.

“if you ‘give up your citizenship’ do you no longer receive social security?”

You would no longer be a US citizen so wouldn’t have any benefits coming to you.

“I’d look toward Chile or New Zealand.”

I bothered to Google this. Found that the top four in listed order are Sungapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, US. However, each has their individual problems to consider, won’t go through theme here as I’m too lazy. But, having been to each of the top three and have had business associates in each as well, the US still comes out on top all things considered. But, having said that, we (US) are on a downward spiral no doubt about it. So, my alternative to the US is this; at some point Texas along with some like minded states should declare a semi-autonomous relationship with the great US, somewhat akin to what Quebec has with Canada. Then, as time and events evolve, further restructuring can be considered. I know, some will say lets secede, screw’em. This will ever happen and wouldn’t be to Texas’ advantage even if it could be pulled off. Okie dokie, comments welcome :)

Spot on, well said.

"Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.”

-- John Adams

"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it.”

-- John Adams
