From the article:Who would want to waste their time with something like this?

Totally agree and I was just thinking the same thing myself.

Perhaps someone with the knowledge will actually do it.

I’m not going to join in the anti-Facebook chorus.

I rather enjoy keeping in touch with friends and family. One of the better ways to keep in touch, to ascertain what brings them joy or grief, is the sort of daily doings that people post.

I’m not talking about a post telling us we are cleaning the toilet or even pictures of food being eaten are a bit anal.

But to know when a cousin living in Florida is on vacation or the former co-worker is trying to buy a house, I really enjoy perusing past this sort of info.

You don’t have to make a career out of reading the posts for God’s sake. Thoughtful and informative posters put up pics and anecdotes in pet interaction.

I’ve gotten so I know who is astute politically, who loves cats, who loves dogs....well I don’t have any Facebook friends who DON’T like dogs and cats but that’s exactly the point.

Couple of times a day I sign in and peruse the posts on Facebook, same as I do here on FreeRep.

I watch light TV while I’m doing it, maybe intersperse with a few games.

Oh...and I LOVE to play Words With Friends.

The biggest allure of the beauty is the freedom to choose who you care enough to read their posts, what games you like to play and who with, what you want to put up about yourself and what to keep private.

It’s a bit of fun to kind of poke fun at other Facebook posters too. I got a sister-in-law who will, and I say this with a sort of smile, post really strange stuff...I’ll paraphrase:

“We are not rich people. We provide our grandchildren with love and good company. Grandparents with big swimming pools don’t love their grandchildren any more than grandparents without grand swimming pools.”

I read something like that and well....I guess the grandchildren’s OTHER grandparents have a swimming pool and sister-in-law doesn’t.

Heh.

I mean obviously she’s troubled and the very next day she puts up a post, I paraphrase:

“Some people got to post all their personal information. They like the attention but it’s so sad.”

Heh.

There is no bigger perp than sister-in-law for this sort of thing but hey, I know when she’s troubled and I know when she’s happy. I also know her grandchildren’s other grandparents have a very nice swimming pool. Never know when you might need this sort of information.

;)

Scooter100 is sitting here waiting for Ford to call and say his car is ready.

Should I have a Twitter/Facebook account to say that?

True. And anyone that thinks it is OK to communicate with the examiner website obviously has no concrete grasp of reality. They should contact the “citizen reporter(s)” on that website next and demand a thorough investigation. After all, perhaps the Denubian sector overlords have tired of the evil saying and have decided to eliminate it once and for all!

Recent articles on Facebook’s inconsistent administrating seem to show a pattern of the site censoring anything other than leftist opinions.

When I couldn't reach my brother after Hurricane Sandy, one of my FB friends when to his home and made sure he was okay.

And when I posted a photo of my broken ankle another FB friend sent me a Bonsai plant as a get-well gift.

Recently, when my granddaughter made mermaid tails for her and her sister. She was proud of her work (her first time sewing) and I posted a video of them swimming in my little swimming pool.

Most of my FB friends are relatives, former co-workers and friends who live 1,000+ miles away from me. I think it's a great way to keep in touch.

Count me in as a fool then. I have been on FB for 4 years and have never had a problem. Neither have any of my FB friends and relatives. I’m always reading of horror stories about FB and MOST of them come from those who have never used FB. FB was supposed to meet its demise at least a dozen times now, but instead its membership keeps growing. I know I have increased the number of friends I have quite a bit every month that I’m on it. FB must be doing something right. If you don’t like it, don’t use it. But for those of us fools who like it, we’ll deal with the critics.

I think the reports of FBs death have been greatly exaggerated. If you don’t use it, why do you care what happens to it? Why would you want to deprive those of us who really enjoy if of having access to it?

That just isn’t true. Most of my friends are very conservative, just like I am. Some post what may be considered extremist positions by the lefties. But no one that I know of has been censored. I read Michelle Malkin’s posts every day, as well as Rush’s FB page. There are many more conservative sites that are on FB and have not been taken down or posts deleted. The only time I’ve seen anything deleted is if you post copyrighted material without permission, just as FreeRepublic does.

‘Heavy girl’ arrested after falling on cousin during Facebook-fueled fight:

A warrant for domestic assault was issued for a Rogersville woman. The victim claimed she was leaving her home when the suspect, who is also her cousin, grabbed her by the hair and began “throwing her around.” While being attacked the victim fell, bringing her cousin — described as a “heavy girl” — tumbling down on top of her. It was then that the alleged victim heard her back “snap.” Several neighbors came out of their homes during the fight, and provided police with statements consistent with the victim’s. Three days later the suspect was located and arrested. She told police the incident was fueled by threats via Facebook, posted by the alleged victim and the victim’s grandmother.

Good post. I understand why some/many people have no interest in being on facebook, but the contempt with which many view run-of-the-mill facebook posters baffles me.

I, too, enjoy keeping in touch with friends across the country via facebook. For example, I have a good friend in California who had a baby last year. It's going to be a while until I can visit her and see the baby, yet I get to see a couple of photos of him a week via facebook.
