It's that time of year again, CrossFitters! The Individual Men and Women competitors got their surprise announcements last night that the Games would begin on Wednesday (again) rather than on Friday with some grueling sprint and distance work.

Will Rich Froning three-peat? Who will take the top spot for the women now that last year's first- and second-place finishers aren't competing this year? Will anyone be able to make heads or tails of the Team workouts? Stuffing or potatoes? Why am I still talking like this?

Tune in to find out!

Gentlemen (and ladies?),

Ya’ll seemed to be following along with last year’s thread, so I figured I’d ping you to this year’s.

Apologies if I have erred!

I was able to watch a little on my computer this afternoon. I’ve been at cross fit for about 8 months, and really think I’m in the best shape of my life at 45 yrs.

Thanks I always enjoyed watching this especially the women. But since January I cancelled my cable but I might get it back in time for football and the winter Olympics.

I hope someone at least gives him a run for the money.

It stinks Annie can’t compete this year. It would have been pretty cool to see two three-peats.

Froning came in 2nd in 2010 (he couldn’t climb a rope worth a damn), then won in 2011 and 2012.

Annie not competing is a real bummer, but she’s on the mend and will definitely be hitting 2014 real hard. Hopefully Julie Foucher (last year’s 2nd place) will be out of medical school and able to compete again.

The 2009 Games Champion, Mikko Salo, was hurt in 2011 and 2012, but he was on his way back this year, then he just announced a few days ago that he was dropping out of the Games due to a torn abdominal muscle. That guy can’t buy a break.

There’s a lot of hype with Josh Bridges this year, too. He came in second in 2011, but he was hurt in 2012. The guy’s an animal, but I don’t see him taking down Froning. If the Regionals are any indicator (and I think they are), Froning will dominate this year, too.

For the women, Sam Briggs and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet are the ones to watch. There are some real stars in the women’s side of the competition, and it could be anyone’s title, but those two are the front-runners for sure.

I saw Froning’s meltdown on the rope...that was painful to watch.

It will be fun to watch the women this year. I think there is another Icelandic chick that is supposed to be good as well. (?)

So many people get hurt training for these. Crossfit is a hard workout scheme for sure. The thing I disagree with them on is high rep Olympic lifts. The OLs are highly technical, and form breaks down on high reps which leads to injury.

That all said, I’m really looking forward to watching.

"The Pool" event is live now on ESPN 3! Just look to the bar on the right and click the "Watch Now" icon for the pool event. Currently the women are in their 2nd heat with a time to beat of 14:07 (unofficial).

Jordan Troyan won “The Pool” event for the men.

Jason Khalipa won the “Row 1” event and is running away with “Row 2.”

Sam Briggs tied with Kaleena Ladeairous on “Row 1” but Briggs is running away with “Row 2.”

Rich Froning came in 30th in “The Pool” and 2nd in “Row 1.” He’s not looking too hot on “Row 2.”

I paid $80/mo in NY, and I’m paying about $130/mo here in MD. It totally depends on where you live. Since CrossFit boxes are run off the affiliate model, each box is its own self-contained small business. The general feel will typically be similar, but the rules, routines, prices, programming, etc. can be fairly different.

And the winners are Kaleena Ladeairous and Jason Khalipa! That makes three wins in a row for Khalipa. Froning is now in 3rd overall place.

Up now:

ZIGZAG SPRINT

Points Available: 100 points

Sprint to the finish line 50 yards away, navigating around four obstacles

The women have finished (not sure who won). Khalipa is out in the first round while Froning is moving on--he can make up some ground here.
