Univision will finish the July 2013 sweep ratings derby at No. 1 in both the 18-49 and 18-34 demographic groups, beating all of the English-language broadcast networks – a sweep first for the Spanish-language network. During the sweep, Univision is delivering an average audience of nearly 3.6 million total viewers, 1.8 million Adults 18-49, 874,000 Adults 18-34, and 1.1 million Persons 12-34 in primetime. Those stats also put Univision in first place for the sweep among 12-34 year olds — with a 30 percent lead over nearest competitor, Fox. While fourth placed among viewers of all ages (ahead of Fox), Univision leaps to the top of the pack with 18-49-ers, who are the currency of most scripted entertainment programming ad sales. In that age bracket, Univision will wrap the sweep 21 percent ahead of second place broadcaster, Fox

I confess, I like watching the novelas. They’re better than most of the dreck on the English-language channels.

I recently got Verizon FIOS, and for the first time I’m subjected to about a half dozen Spanish-language channels, clustered together near the bottom of the dial, sandwiched between the local access channels and the sports channels (none of which I watch).

I can’t understand a word, of course, but sometimes they are lively, especially the soap operas and variety shows.

The Mexican novelas are actually more popular in Russia than in Mexico, whenever the actors go to Russia for a publicity tour, they’re mobbed as if they were royalty.

Do they still have “Lara?” My boys found Lara when we were on a vacation. It’s the Mexican Jerry Springer show, except it’s in Spanish. And where Jerry has the big goons who step in whenever the angry trailer park woman dumps her chair, Lara does not have the goons intervene. She just lets them go. It’s a hoot. I can see why the Mexicans lap it up. It’s like cockfighting, but with people.

For the past month or so they have been running the CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer matches, which are very popular with Mexican fans. No doubt bumping up their numbers.

See the thing is, US media is ridiculously left-leaning.

Everything they do, is about bias.

Even Fox (broadcast, not FNC) is biased. Everyone. That is why they’re losing.

It is ridiculous. They are one big group of clueless, uninspiring groupthink maroons.

All of them.

I turned on the cable TV this morning, which is unusual for me.

Flipped through the channels.

Aside from learning all the nonsense I ever wanted to learn about a bunch of people posing in front of a building in Britain, the news is other than that ... stupid.

I turned it right back off. No wonder the media is losing so much viewership.
