FULL TITLE: Mother tells how she was strapped down while prison doctors persuaded her to be sterilized as it emerges nearly 250 California inmates were 'pressured' into the surgery

A shocking new report reveals that nearly 250 women have been sterilized in California prisons since the 1990s, some as recently as 2010.

Many of the women say that they were repeatedly pressured into having tubal ligation surgeries by prison doctors - raising the specter of California's dark history of eugenics.

Female inmates revealed stories of being told - while in labor - that they should have the surgery, without being given a reason why it was medically necessary.

The Center for Investigative Reporting found that between 1997 and 2010, the state of California paid more than $147,000 for sterilization surgeries on 148 sterilization surgeries - all of which were performed without proper state approval or oversight.

Instead of going through state prison healthcare regulators, doctors took it in their own hands to order the permanent surgery, which is commonly referred to as a woman 'having her tubes tied.'

Dr James Heinrich, the for OB-GYN at Valley State Prison for Women in Chowchilla, California, said the money was a bargain for California taxpayers.

'Over a 10-year period, that isn’t a huge amount of money compared to what you save in welfare paying for these unwanted children – as they procreated more,' he told the CIR.

He said no patients were coerced into having sterilization surgery and he only recommended women who were at risk after multiple C-sections.

A woman I know who was in a regular hospital and not a prison told me that when she was in active labor with her second baby, she was asked numerous times to sign a form for tubal ligation. The nurses seemed to wait after particularly painful contractions for their request.

An agreement made while under duress is not made freely, and thus is not legally binding. Sue.

How many of them are decent hardworking conservatives?
I couldn’t care less.
We get less violent criminals, dim voters and EBT holders as a result.
No abortion as well.

Injustice should not be tolerated simply because the victims are those you dislike... because next time, the same methods will be used on those you do favor. The Christian faith also has a few things to say about it, including the basic "Do unto others..."

I think it should be mandatory for people receiving welfare.

If you don’t like it get off the government dole.

Lots of good decent people who are on welfare temporarily ...because of circumstances beyond their control....lost job, honestly disabled, etc...

Yup...no more babies for you....even after they get their life on track...

Sometimes babies just happen even with preventative measures. ..

No wonder libtards think we are haters....

babies never “just happen”. There are protocols involved.

No abortion as well.

That's EXACTLY the kind of neo-fascist attitude that will bring down our country.

DO YOU REALLY want government officials to STERILIZE people you don't like? THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE NAZIS DID!

And what will you do if such procedures came out of the prisons to a school near you...? Do you really think such a movement would stop at welfare queens, and wouldn't target so-called "enemies of the state" like YOUR DAUGHTERS????

Eugenics schemes like this were routinely administered in 1920s and 1930s Germany....culminating ultimately in Auschwitz.

No freedom loving conservative or Christian can tolerate this whatsoever.

Let me get in the cross hairs with you Pop, as you will surely get flamed for that! Folks who focus their derision upon the victims of government run amok are off target."Welfare Queens" did not enact the law, nor do they fund it.

I heard that all before welfare makes people dependent and the more you give them the more dependent they become.

Just like feeding wild animals the more you feed them the more they want and the less they do for them self's.

You can bet these are not sorority girls. Women in prison most often are there for repeated drug offenses. We are talking mostly crack whores and meth users here. The American taxpayer should not be burdened further, but a temporary sterilization method would be preferable because even a crack whore stands a chance of turning her life around. I really hate the idea of using the power of the state to impose such a permanent penalty upon someone. It seems like mayhem to me, which I thought was outlawed in the western world as a form of punishment.

"Isn't it a common practice..."

I understand that in Sudan, female genital mutilation is common too. Maiming surgery isn't right even if it is common.

And yes, I am using "maiming" in the dictionary-accurate sense:

Verb
To wound or injure (someone) so that part of the body is permanently damaged.

To deprive of the use of some part of the body by removal, or by disabling its function.

The assault on women’s bodies as they were created by God is a rejection of the Creator Himself. “Freep you, you got it wrong!”

It’s so easy to mutilate women ... and it’s so difficult to build a culture in which all people, men and women, thank God for the gift of their embodied life by conducting themselves in holiness, as sons and daughters of the King.

“You can bet these are not sorority girls”

You’ve never been to college have you? Sorority girls are the meanest b!tches on campus. Yes women in prison are sorority girls. All be it their own sorority.

Actually I have spent considerable time at several different colleges and more than one penitentiary. Sorority girls are some hateful mean bitches, but they are pikers compared to the prison dykes and trash. The kind of abuse that goes on inside the joint is more terrifying that most can imagine.

I’ve had four, and nobody ever even suggested such a thing

For some reason, some people seem to think that everyone should have just two when people really want more than two.

It is usually liberals who think that the more kids you have the more resources you're gonna hog.

I will play ‘Devils Advocate’ here for a minute but how many people on this list would agree with the procedure, wholeheartedly if it was presented in the above form?
My guess is the vast majority......

After the second(?) third(?) crack-addicted newborn?

After the sixth baby by five fathers who is going to grow up on welfare and start cranking out (or fathering) their own babies at age 13?

Tough call — unless one is a proglodyte — then the “common good” trumps all.

Women are under duress when they enter an abortion clinic.
