Think about the question in the title...
Mohammed Morsi (of the Islamic Brotherhood) keeps using the word "legitimacy" when referring to his post as president.
Morsi, according to the BBC, used the word 56 times in his most recent speech.
It is true that he says he was Democratically elected, and it is also true that his opponents (who range from moderate Muslims, to Secularists, to Christian), have said that various freedoms (as in freedom of speech among others) have been drastically curtailed, and various news outlets have reported this along with the economy nosediving under his leadership -- with tourism, principally, coming to a halt.
Question: So a democratically elected Fascist government would be legitimate to Morsi? Would Morsi say this? Or is there some place he would draw the line? Would he draw the line and leave that type of govt on one side (which most rational, empathic humn beings would), with his kind barely on the other side of the line?
Would that be self-serving on his part?
And who knows what this intervention may portend for Egypt.
NEITHER a Democratically-elected suppressive gov't NOR an autocrat who (for political advantage) doles out freedoms would be favored govt's to have, but NEITHER would a gov't ran by the military, either. We don't know if that will happen, though.
We shall have to wait and see what happens.
BOTH a Democratically-elected gov't AND one that protects freedoms (among them freedom of religion, speech, etc) would be the favored form.
What say you?
> What say you?
Hitler was democratically elected.
So was 0bamao.
Doesn’t make their government “legitimate”.
A government that does not honor the birthrights of mankind is illegitimate, regardless of how it came into power.
Besides, Democracy is mob rule.
Two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for lunch.
I went to that University named after the Last King Of Egypt.
I have a sweatshirt around here somewhere,
Farouk U. Egypt
They are legitimate only so long as they adhere to the Constitution.
They do not get a blank check
That’s what 0baMao and sHrillary said about President Zelaya of Honduras.
I saw an even more graphic example lately.
Gang rape is democracy in action.
Great news! The defeat of the Muslim Brotherhood is a HUGE setback for Muhammad Obama!!
a government that excessively violates natural rights is illegitimate and deserves to be overthrown by either internal or external means.
