Since Palin put the GOP on notice yesterday and followed up with a tweet to Marco Rubio about the congratulatory call he received from Barack Obama on his ability to ram an amnesty bill, the usual suspects are jumping on her.
Many tweeted a Hot Air article from 2008 that stated she supported a "path to citizenship."
On whether or not to deport the millions already here, she said:
There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but thats not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.
On whether or not she supported amnesty, she said:
No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. Theyve got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
Rather she talked about a "path to citizenship," she was asked if she supported it:
I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.
Other tidbits of her statement included:
We secure our borders first. But then with a comprehensive approach we must deal humanely with those who are here, and we must allow the steps to be taken to protect the families of those who are here, maybe as illegal immigrants today.

Hard to see how that hurts her - or her position today.
There was a thread from a guy on FR saying the same thing. Makes me think it was coordinated by the agents of the GOPe to save their amnesty push.
Rove or his pals La Raza or Soros
When I say this, and I've said it many times on FR, I get flamed.....and I don't even go the humane route...I'm just talking practical reality.....hmmm....
Sarah went to Arizona, saw how terrible it is across the border, how these illegals just stroll into our country..she understands now more than ever that amnesty is not the way to go..you don’t reward rule breakers with a free ride..and she gets that
All you have to do is stop giving them jobs and government checks and they’ll self-deport.
Isn’t it amazing the absolute hostility conservatives get in this country from both the left AND the right? I mean you never see far leftist fascist commies getting the kind of abuse someone like Palin or Bachmann or Herman Cain got and are getting. What they did to Cain made me completely desert the Republican party. All that crap they tried to throw on him and not ONE person from the Repubs defended the guy all because they wanted to push the RINO from Assachussets. F them. The Tea party is the only party that exists for me now and I truly hope Palin runs on that ticket. To hell with the RINO party.
BUMP
60 years ago we routed Nazi Germany. We put men on the moon and a satellite outside the solar system. Are you seriously saying we can’t deport any number of illegals?
We can. We lack the will.
Anything from 2008 has to be evaluated thru the prism of the Presidential campaign.
She wasn’t so much espousing her own beliefs as she was supporting her party’s nominee. Since 2008, her statements have been more inclined to condemn illegal aliens who break the law.
It’s hard to see how that outlook can be used to say she supports amnesty.
President Eisenhower deported over a million Mexicans during the 1950s. The rest, observing what was happening, self-deported.
The story about those sent back to Mexico via ship evidently made the rounds among Mexicans. Most Mexicans evidently can not swim, and being shipboard terrified them.
You mean the anti-Palin people on FR?
Yup. Some people just don’t WANT to deport them so they say it cannot be done. They make excuses, invent preposterous crap and just repeat over and over.
If we wanted to, we collectively could do a lot worse than deport them. That’s a fact. But we don’t want to do that, nor should we. But we CAN deport as many as needed to get it dine. And exactly as you said, the rest would quickly ditch Dodge as they would not want to be removed. They would leave or starve.
This is the part that the Democrats and GOP elite reject.
Require EVERY business to very the employment eligibility of EVERY employee and prospective employee. Penalty for failure to do so, or employing an illegal: $50,000 per day per illegal.
The Mexican border will be overrun with illegals self-deporting back to Mexico.
yes, the lack of will is a huge factor in what Sarah, and I, are saying. Other than that, your analogies are absurd also.
Self deport would work to a large degree with a secure border and no more benefits....and those are the two steps I support.
At some point you will realize that your mad on for me is clouding your common sense. If you can quantify exactly how it is that we ‘can’t’ deport any number of people, please do so in detail.
Until that time, pot shots at me personally only make you look the fool with no evidence to back up your assertions.
My analogies are legit. We accomplished many things people like you said could not be done. Deny reality all you like.
